Bottled Petrichor

Petrichor: n. a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.
That glorious smell after rain is basically like catnip to indigo. It induces in them a heady pleasure, and a profound sense of peace and oneness with the world. Many indigo describe it as a distillation of the concept of settling into bed after you’ve come home from a long trip. Naturally, they extracted it, isolated it, and engineered plants and fungi to produce it. During their industrial-dominated era, they had plenty of factories dedicated to drying and powdering the extract. They could then take the drug by nose or by mixing it into an ingestible. Aside from the aforementioned effects (and the sheer beautiful smell), petrichor dust had beneficial effects: At small doses, dust grants them heightened awareness, clarity of mind, and the focus of an autist with a new special interest. Needless to say, it can make them *quite* productive and happy. Everyone and their slime mold carried a good pinch of dust on them for seasons.
These days, wishrats prefer to grow their petrichor fresh and harvest it as needed. They’ve developed a variety of well-growing plants and fungi so that they produce it ambiently. As a result, wellspace smells great wherever something can grow. When a wishrat wants a full dose, she just rubs a leaf or a mushroom, or pops the whole minaret into her mouth and chews.
Petrichor dust is frequently added to the I. tempora indigo (and sometimes others) take when they need to enter compress-space on short notice. The compounds in tempora let someone physically handle compress-space, but it’s still pretty overwhelming for the mind. Petrichor can help smooth the transition, making you feel like part of the wrinkling world and happy to roll along.
