Rubber skin

It‘s a genetic mutation caused by certain chemicals inside a liquid mixture that was purposely made to craft better balloons. A regular formula would just cause skin rashes and for worse: death! But an inventor called Joseph Bloweth created a secret formula that was spilled on him by mistake and it didn‘t kill him but granted him supernatural powers.

Once the chemicals are soaked inside the skin/hair/scales/fur/feathers, they start changing colors and glow in the first stage. On the second stage the glow fades away and the person feels a tingling sensation on their whole body, uncontrollable shaking too. Stage three is the part when the supernatural powers start to show. The body stretches and inflates to the biggest limit possible until it explodes just to regenerate itself instantly. This will be the only time the carrier of the mutation wouldn‘t be able to control this but afterwards they can train how to control and use their powers. If their powers aren‘t getting used after three days, the body will start to inflate by itself without control again, getting bigger this time.

When not being treated properly, spontaneous body inflation causes to happen more often and in a bigger expansion size than before. The explosions will be bigger and more damaging as well.

There is no cure for it but people with rubber skin can practise, train and learn how to use their stretching and inflation powers effectively. Those people can even be granted the class of the airmonk.

The chemicals that cause that mutation are meant for blowing bigger balloons, even for the use of creating a floatable and controllable air balloon. Used on a person can have the same result.

More, bigger and more frequent spontaneous inflations and explosions if not getting treated right away.

It‘s usually professional people who use and experiment with various chemicals, potions, liquids and mixtures, such as inventors, professors, alchemists, etc.

This doesn‘t happen a lot, in fact: Only a few in Centurion have rubber skin. Joseph Bloweth, the inventor of balloons and first being influenced by the rubber skin itself is one of the very few. It can’t be spread like a flu or a plague or anything else. The chance of getting in contact with any balloon crafting mixture is very low, about 0,0000003%!

Joseph Bloweth, the inventor of the strongest balloon crafting formula, which he called the „Unbreakable Balloon mixture“ created all kinds of balloons in his career. The biggest achievement in his history is the balloon that doesn‘t pop right away, even though his intention was for the balloon to not pop at all. To secure the formula, he placed it on a shelf so high that nobody can reach it without a ladder. As the balloon started inflating so big that it knocked over things from various shelves and tables, the formula fell on Joseph‘s head and the bottle broke, causing the liquid to pour down on him, from head to toe. He had to flee since the balloon was filling out the whole lab, until it exploded!   Only afterwards, the inventor realized he got all of that formula poured on him and was worried his skin would get rashes. But other stages happened as mentioned before and after shaking and feeling a strong tingling sensation he balooned up from the torso and he was inflated to the size of a church until he accepted his fate and exploded. He woke up to find himself back to his regular round shape and size, unharmed but his clothes were torn apart. Many months he studied and tested his newly found condition and even proceeded to practise the class of an airmonk after attending a meeting of the airmonks in the frog kingdom Sepherrald as a vacation trip.

Many people would see non-frogs with the rubberskin condition just as dangerous as witches and untrained mages, but for different reasons. Though people with rubberskin get a different body odor and can attract people more likely without trying too hard than others without it. Some non affected people would more likely want to interview them, touch them, just to find out more about the rare condition.
