The mirth Masks
A mysteroius and ghostly group of figures that appear at places of great suffering or loss to mock those who mourn the the dead and those, who themselfs, are nearing death. Unlike their counterpart "The sorrow priests" they seem to show nether compassion nor pity for the people they plague and their laughter and constant taunting cause many of their victims to go mad. Not only do these beeings have a possible connection with the divine but also death itself. The poet and historian "Parus", who was one of the few people to survie their encounter with the group describes it as following:
From Parus last letter to home...
" As our food was slowly running out and our patience running thin we started hearing laughter from the nearby edge of the woods, we thought we had gone mad, but once we approached, ... a tall pellucid creature emerged from the treeline. Both i and my "Camprian companion" looked at each other taken aback. As the ghostly figure came closer and closer i heard the whispers and laughs intensivy and soon it seemed like there were dozends if not houndreds of them sourrounding us on all sides leaving us no escape. As they came closer i started to make out the shape of what i belived to be robes and featuresless faces hidden by eerie grinning masks ... though their translucid appearence made it hard to make out any details about their features. At this point my companion was cowering in the grass though i, as courageous as i am, stood my ground attempting to fend of these foul beasts. Just as their seemed to be no way for me to escape and just these grinning masked man closed in on me, they vanished, just as fast as they had appeared. While neither of us had suffered physical injury it was apparend that my camprian friend had suffered serious mental scars. I believe he must have suffered a serious case of "Battle-Fatique" as he rufused to eat, drink or even sleep in the days and nights following the encounter. There was not much i could do for him, i burried him somewhere near the old Capitol Church on the westeren "travelers road" 30 royal miles west of the "Aquillum River"...
Classification
Many have conntested, that the mirth masks are simple ghosts or spirites and instead see them as forces of more divine nature. While exact research about this specific topic of their existance is hard to carry out it is unlikely that the mirth masks are allied with ether the "last sons" or the forces of light it seems that their only disire is to observe and to mock those below as time passes by and fate leaves them uneffected
