Summer Camp 2024 Prep

Whelp, let's see how this goes!  

Week 1

Assignment 1 - Change   Centaria is currently in its "Glory Era" which is the 6th era of their 5000(ish) year history. Each era is marked by a major change in the world, therefore there is plenty of opportunity to explore how those changes came about! While I have a decent idea on what happened to mark each one (Founding Era, Independent Era, Divine Era, Civil Era, Romantic Era, and Glory Era), I think this will be a wonderful opportunity to expand on those more. Though, that's just what first came to mind when I heard the theme. There's every chance I'll end up exploring a different type of "change" (geopolitical, story-specific, or otherwise) once I hear the exact prompts - if something else comes to me.   Otrina (aside from being terribly underdeveloped) also has several "pivotal" moments throughout its history (with their timeline split up between Old World, Dead Years, and now New World) that are ripe for expansion. Again, though, I may end up focusing on something more small-scale when the time comes. I'm excited to find out!   Assignment 2 - Setting Goals     ✨ Ta da ✨   I've never completed one of the camps before; Though I have set out with the intent to do one, I've never been successful. Real life stuff kept getting in the way, ya know how it is, but I'm coming up on having a lot of free time and I am determined to get some work done on my stories after delaying it for so long. I'm hoping that, by setting this goal for myself and having actual due dates (which is very much needed because I'm not great at self-discipline), it'll put me in the right frame of mind to work on my books and finally get something out to the public. Fingers crossed!   Assignment 3 - Categorize & Tags   I feel like both of my worlds are already pretty well organized on terms of folders and tags and whatnot. Both could probably use some touching up, though, so I'll probably spend a day this week just doing that.   Assignment 4 - Update the Meta   I've never really dove into my world Meta, so I guess now is as good a time to start as any! This will probably be the first thing I do and my main project this week.  

Week 2

Assignment 1 - Refuge   In regards to Otrina, the first thing that came to mind when I heard "refuge" was potentially how the mortals coped during The Godless Years, when all of the gods were warring and they were stuck in the middle. That was, however, a very long time ago and I'm kind of wanting to work on something more recent. In that regard, it may be best to start from scratch and pick an under-developed area to expand on, with just using "refuge" as a jumping off point.   For Centaria, the main thing I can think of was a landmark in the country of Faraday; The Salutary Heart of Centaria. It's a major center for healing and a neutral spot for all kinds of political and personal conflict. It not only serves as a hub for those needing a neutral place to sort things out, it is also a catch-all for those who have no where else to go and seek "refuge". Overall it's a bit underdeveloped, so being able to build upon this would be helpful for future stories.   Assignment 2 - Accountability   Currently, I have my spouse to keep me on track, as they know how important this is to me and how easily I can get side-tracked. I've also posted about this on my personal Facebook, so there's now a measure of social pressure to make sure I can keep face lol.   Assignment 3 - Styling   Oh boy, this is something I've been dreading a bit, but something that needs to be done nonetheless. This, as well as the next assignment, is something I've never been great at, and I have always been intending to just hire someone to do they styling for me. However, being strapped for cash and now having it "forced" upon me might be the best motivation to learn it myself!   Assignment 4 - CSS   I pay for the upgraded account that gives me more freedom when it comes to CSS stuff, so I might as well use it. Off to YouTube tutorials!
