Onyxia

Districts

Dragon’s Glade

farming valley, outer limits of Onyxia’s control (still considered city limits).

The largest part of the city, that sits on the outskirts. Surrounded by mountains and the only way to the city on land is the fertile lands with the dragonborn technique of terrace farming that the land can produce food and provide for most of Onyxia. Farmers have some of the students visit their farm to practice their magic to help grow crops. If the student were to fail horribly the farmer would be compensated for their lost crops.

Mostly dragonborn live here.

Council Member. Lorder Whitmaul.

Edgecrest

A small farming village on the edge of the Dragon’s Glade. This outer limit town has been overrun by Dire Corbies and has been abandoned for about 20 years.  Consists of a few boarded up farm houses and a barn.

Maerin

Mountain side village currently under the influence of Duvezin (previously founder of Vermeillon). Varnyr has taken up residence here and has tried to boost the town's education by transforming the Inn into a library.

Protector’s Ward

The outer slums of Onyxia. They live outside the city walls. Officials renamed it from the Outer Slums so as to not dissuade any tourists.

Spell Fire Garrison

After the Dire Corby attacks had caused one of the outer limit settlements to be left abandoned and the kidnapping of Lorder Whitmaul, he had set up outposts throughout the valley. These outposts use a magical warding flame to deter the corbies.

Vermeillon

A dark curse befell this small mining town after its main source of income, the platinum mine, had collapsed. The curse caused mass paranoia then that paranoia became real as people started to vanish. The town is now abandoned.

A group of adventures drove off the infestation that inhabited the abandoned town.

This is where the remains of the ancient city of Helmorni see the light of day, most of the other ruins are found underneath the city, this is the most common entrance to them. Students of lore and history frequent the ruins and it is where the main campus for Lorehold is located.

Lorehold Campus.

Omodian Swamp

In a large crevice near the Onyx Tower there is a forest that covers up the hole. There are various levels to this district. There are giant trees locally known as Feystalks that grow to about five hundred feet tall. The canopy completely covers the sky, the light provided here is giant hanging fruit growing from the trees. The inhabitants of the swamp have shaped the trunks of the tree into elaborate clusters of buildings. Low hanging branches have been twisted and formed into bridges between each of the different trees and levels. A hundred feet below lies the untamed Omodian Swamp. There are trails and sections that have been carved out for relatively safer exploration but it is very much an untamed swamp and jungle.

History

During the Veiled Age, the city first began when a meteor fell from the sky and created the valley. The spark-core creation of the Celestials emerged from it and began to build a civilization. They were the ones who first built the Onyx Tower from the meteor they arrived on. When the great rust occurred, many spark-core societies were wiped out, including the original inhabitants of Onyxia.

Later on, when the Elven nations were exploring the newly unveiled world, they found the long-dead city and claimed it as their own. This colonial empire enslaved other species and even their own kind. Using arcane rituals, they created the orcish curse. This process went wrong, and the entire empire they had built vanished overnight. The land was seen as cursed and forbidden for hundreds of years.

The city had changed hands once again as the drakkona fled prosecution after the Koatal Wars. Discovering the safe haven filled with ancient works, they abandoned their god king and dedicated themselves to the protection of knowledge. The city now stands as a testament to their ideals, as everyone is welcome, no matter their species, as long as their pursuit aligns with the goal of preservation and cultivation of knowledge.

Points of interest

The Onyx Tower is considered the greatest archive in the world, where anyone can be trained to be a master scholar in any field of study. Many schools of thought and universities have been built in the city around the tower and share resources.

Tourism

Scholars from all over the world come to Onyxia for the chance to learn at the Onyx Tower, widely considered the greatest archives of knowledge in the world.

Geography

The city sits in the basin of a large meteor impact. Large, steep, jagged walls surround the city with an opening to the valley to the west, and the east side opens to the coast. The center of the city is a raised plateau where a meteor fell eons ago. The Onyx Tower is constructed from it.

Climate

The valley experiences pleasant temperatures year-round. The mountains surrounding the valley protect it from the frequent storms on the other side.

Natural Resources

Gemstones are abundant in the valley and are frequently mined.
