Second Wasteland-Eidel War
Some fifty years after the first war, the Wastelands went on the offensive. The army they ran into was a very different one from the one which tried to conquer them in decades past.
The most significant change was the massive proportion of spindles used in warfare. Not only did this hamper shamans, it allowed for more troops due to exist due to lower maintenance costs. On top of this, xiphaem usage was on the rise- while not naturally aligned to the magic in the same way that Wastelanders were, the Eideli were at the very least metaphorical children of Eid, and currently in her favor. Being so closely aligned to the sovereign of blood meant that the xiphaem power differential wasn't insurmountable, especially given the disadvantaged side's broader skillset and greater resources.
The war went poorly for the Wastelands this time, and resulted in Eidel managing to establish a solid foothold around the Salt Desert. While not outright securing passage through the wastes like they would in later times, access to the salt mines was a huge boon to the Eideli economy due to spindles' suitability for harvesting it.
