AT17 “Firecaster”Anti-Tank missile system
Introduced into service in 1998, the Firecaster anti-tank missile system has been LBF’s primary anti-tank missile platform capable of firing medium sized munitions at long ranges. It’s manufacturer, Suidis Arms & Systems , has a history of making precise and complex weapon systems. While the AT-5 Infantry Portable Anti-tank Launcher is lighter and more versatile, the AT17 system packs a much larger warhead and can hit targets accurately at longer ranges. The launcher can fire several types of warheads including, a tandem shaped charge anti-tank (T-SCAT) round, high explosive squash head (HESH) rounds, an armor piercing plasma penetrator, and an air burst missile for dealing with lightly armored targets or infantry behind cover. The AT17 is often used in a pre-prepared position concealed within the environment to make it hard to spot. It’s often used in ambushes and defensive positions to take out enemy armor and vehicles at long range. The missile system is somewhat portable, although it’s not as easy to carry as the AT-5, the Firecaster can be delivered to a position via speederbike, gunship, or other ground vehicle. The Firecaster is then assembled at a firing position, a fairly quick process that takes 2 minutes or less. The assembly can be quickly disassembled and brought to a new position or transported on a vehicle.
