A Castrovel Adventure: Part 6, Chapter 7

~O'mei Vaeol-Ile zhefya kolamaea shiramya evole.~ (In which Lady Vaeol seeks connection with city and kin.)

From the Daylog of Vaeol-Zheieveil Yaranevae be’Son
16. Vinelae, 24,548 - Son (2 days since last log)   These two days have gone swiftly and, given the happendom, maybe in the best wise canny. Yesterday we gathered at the Nes’s drillyard, where Krastaes clove too. There, rather boldly, we held the yard against all dares. Many champions, both of the Games and the Uroha who had heard my nameworth, and both Damaya and Korasha, tried my doughtiness. I safely write I yielded good stalwartness.   Today, stemming from yesterday’s deed, Lady-Mistress Iasaul beseeched me come before the outriderhood and teach foot warcraft (happily, she seems less bedreadened under my sisters’ threats than the captains). She outspoke that our Shotalashu’s bonds are alright, but we cannot ever ride them. She outnamed me as not only war-proven but a foot-trial champion in two cities, and who furthermore had beaten a foe in deadly weapontrial. Then we spent the better share of two belltides teaching and drilling, mostly swordbill, though we also bestowed some rede on shortbill and war-axe.   In good news, I got to spar with Raeonyl my sister, who is becoming a fair warrior. Mishappily, she onrushed too eagerly, and I had no choice but to shut her down, whereat her eyes widened at my strength. Bewaring a teaching forehap, I called near all and bade her stand fast. Then I beread: ~O’illi vi risyelis, o’nae haese o’adeni yi Korashara-hoe!~ - “If you would fight me, you must do so as against a Korasha!”   Among the newling-maidens, I sorrily saw many antennae wilt. So I bade them brunt me and showed I could not be shifted. We then overtalked length, reach, and their behoof. Then I called Kaure and Sievae, and we showed not only how to brook length and reach against a shorter foe, but also how a stronger foe will try to brunt, near, and overbear. Then we merrily sparred and shoved the waiflike maidens over the yard.   Laterward in the bath, I watched my sister hug Kaure and a few other maidens shyly near. When afterward we spoke with Lady Iasaul about tomorrow repeating my drilltide for the other newlings, we beheld Raeonyl and other others awkwardly lifting weights. A good laughter took, and we joked Son may soon field the strongest Damaya shieldwall in Asana!     17. Vinelae, 24,548 - Son   A short word that, as forespoken, today Kaure, Sievae, and I repeated our drilltide for the other Damaya newlings. They listened well, and dolefully since most forelook not to be become outriders and therefore own no haughty crave. Then, since Meiss hovered near and woefully sought match, we bade him cleave and added his strength holding the yard. Afterward, we funnily watched maidens switch between shyly following him and haughtily flirting (whereat Sievae swiftly instrode and beckoned ownership). Yet while I laughed, Remaue nodded to a troop of maidens after me. When I blithely asked why, she named me doauze and answered they were making frog-eyes at me.   At the end, Zhaene my niece beseeched to spar, which I gladly yaysaid and beheld her, like Raeonyl, becoming a fair warrior. While we ringed and jabbed, I beheld a matron come upon the watchdeck: my sister Risodess her mother. I behaved not, but when Zhaene’s eyes swept the watchdeck, something dimmed grimmer, though not her skill.   Laterward, I halted the fight, and we talked warcraft. When her eyes again flickered, I could not unheed and said: ~O’roe kaorreasya Maeileia miaveaea-rualdaf,~ - “Know that I have earned your lady-mother’s ill will.”   Zhaene slightly nodded. ~Nila miaveada,~ - “Many have earned it.” She stood sharp, but then hugged me and took leave. I bestow sorrow to my niece, since I deem her a worthy maiden under uneasy mindfulness.     Treesong Eve, 24,548 - Son (1 day since last log)   Little to bewrite today but an outriderhood moottide, which I reckon secret, though happily nobody tolled oaths. It bequeathed hap to yield my last six years’ deeds to my sister-outriders, which got some worship and many asks. They wished to know more about my weapondare with Byreath, the feeling of another life’s slaughter, and even how I had forborne bloodfilth. I answered my best.   True to Lady-Mistress Iasaul’s forebode, when I told of fostering Kaure’s and Oshis’s weapondare again Qabarat’s outriders, I got the ask: ~Dei lara zhaovyazis vi-holashassara o Motorae?~ - “Do you foresee them riding against us at Motorae?” ~Dei yi eimya-shyalze?~ - “Do you so fear?” I mildly answered, and did not seek further. They may reckon over the next yeartide whether honor or fear drives them.     Soelae Treesong, 24,548 - Son   Today Tae and I did something weighty, and forsoothly under the whole city’s mind. Under treesong, we brought Yaraess and Aeosel our sons to Greenmother’s temple. Under Zotheiu the Soul-Tree we showed and beseeched acknowledge belonging to the city, and under hymn danced with the priests, treesingers, and our kin - our flagmates, my mother, Tae’s kindred, and also Less’s. Zotheiu hovered our sons upward and read their souls into the Overmind, while Tae and I fell aknee and wept.   At the end, we meekly took them back. Aeosel dizzily asked where all the folk had gone. I sobbingly laughed and kissed his brow.   That was the day’s glad deed. What afterfollowed proved less so. My mother held a mirthtide cheering her youngest grandchild’s treesong. Although we got welcome-bid, we did not so feel. Among the gathered matrons and trademistresses and my mother’s eyesome shun, I found many hard eyes and bewared my sisters’ whispers. So our flag broadly spent the tide afriending Tae’s and Less’s kindreds who had come into the city and who, even under the High Matron’s boon, overwhelmingly wanted someone to talk. Less’s mother doted on Lanaryel as her granddaughter and yielded Remaue dear worship.   Under this unwelcomeness and maybe a little bubblemead, we could not withhold forethought to our next deed. Since there seems little behoof staying in the city, we foreread where else we could go. So we have chosen to shed a tide and go where our hearts deem meetest. Tae and Less will selfsomely go with her kindred. Nae and Hanos will seek hers while Draue spends time with her sons’ fathermate. We else, incleaving myself, Erymi, and Sievae (Oshis’s harem, as we naughtily name ourselves) along with Remaue and Kaure, will go northward to Hivaea, where dwells Oshis’s mother Oloe, and whomto we shall show all her grandchildren. So settled, we leave tomorrow.
Recap: Lady Vaeol received a warning that her sisters are working to undermine her status in Son.
