The Seven Archives
The seven archives are vast ancient vaults of knowledge and artifacts preserved since the Third Age. Each is part library, part records room, part storage warehouse, part museum, part scientific repository, and part arcane zoo. Each archive contains hundreds of separate rooms, including many demi-planes that preserve magical items and creatures from the magic-less time of the Peregrination, in stasis in extra-planar safety.
Science, technology and arcane mysterionomy had progressed to such a height of perfection by the civilisations of the Third Cycle under the leadership of the Council Superb that many things thought impossible were achieved. During the Perluxion, when both magic and supernatural threats were most powerful, the global leadership had achieved world peace, landed explorers on the moon in the Trimillennial Falcon (a space-sailing flying ship) completely eradicated monsters and monstrous races from the face of Casiphon, and by building the Thousand Towers from near-indestructible Adamantine Obsidian prevented the turning of the cycle and the endings of the Perluxion.
The civilisations that existed in the Third Age preserved their knowledge and creations in cleverly designed repositories known as the Archives. Though many thousands of archives were built, only seven were even seen after the Great Sundering. Most were doubtless swallowed in the earth, plunged to the bottom of the sea or inundated by molten rock.
The Archives are all different, though all contain vast ancient and lost wisdom of all sorts, works of art, literature in lost languages, magical artifacts of immense power and even creatures preserved for all time. The Grey Archive, for example, contained fifteen thousand transcripts of official debates and discussions from the world parliament, preserved specimens of dragons and draconic monsters, arcane tunnelling machines, ceremonial magical weapons and the public libraries of several small communities.
