Nivelanum

Nivelanum is the snow-bound dwarven hold built in the easternmost foothills of the Black Peaks. The Nivelane dwarves are famous for harnessing the geothermal power of the Black Peaks in their steam-powered forges and mills, and for producing the finest steel in Casiphon. Their hold fought a series of protracted and bloody wars with the Taorminite empire before finally surrendering on terms that they would provide armaments to the Taorminites but not fight in their army.   Nivelane dwarves are fairly open and friendly with outsiders. They are proud artisans and many descendants of Nivelane dwarves are found across Casiphon working the family business as smiths or other skilled industries.   Natural wonder: the Smoking Fields   The dwarven hold of Nivelanum is built on the eastern foothills of the Black Peaks. To the West of the hold is an enormous flat expanse of black stone, roughly sixteen miles in diameter, rent with deep pits and chasms which constantly pour out smoke and steam, or send out geysers of boiling, sulpherous water high into the air.
