Lake Belphion

Lake Belphion is the large body of water at the western border of Borystheneion fed by the Borysta River and the streams from the Carradine hills. In winter, Lake Belphion is usually partially or completely frozen. It is inhabited by many fish as well as large blue serpents.   Natural wonder: the Ice-Corals of Belphion The lake is most renowned for its spreading tree-like ice-coral reefs, which forms an enormous ring around the edge of the lake just below the waterline. Ice-corals are formed by small star-shaped worms, which grow in freezing cold waters and build a home from ice and water-muck. The ice will stay solid after other water melts, but will melt if held in the hand or if taken into warmer air.   The Taorminite town of Lochenhale was founded in Belphiath as a fishing and fur-hunting settlement. It has become an independent community of Taorminite humans, Belphiathi barbarians and Borystheniote elves.
