Gaal Ind

Gaal Ind was founded less than three centuries ago on the south-eastern shore of the Emel Sea by the Grithi to control the forests of hardwood timber as well as the rich sulphur and gem mines on Mount Indon, one of the two large volcanic peaks on Mettye. The city also contains a heavily fortified naval base and shipyard, which is said to allow safe haven to the pirates preying on shipping in the Ischindar and Emel Seas. The city was built on the remains of a former city, built in a cloverleaf shape in three overlapped circles around three hills near the shore.   Gaal Ind is ruled by a satrap from Mabag Pachamel Grith, who resides in a great tower made of iridescent black-glazed brick. The current satrap is Jaravindera Khiet, an ebony-skinned tiefling with magnificent curling horns, who is said to have once been a pirate captain.   The countryside is dotted with numerous mine-workings, logging businesses, farms and silk-plantations. Most of what is produced is used for shipbuilding, shipped to Mabag Pachamel Grith (at all times of the year, given the usually favourable winds and sheltered climate) or sold in the many markets and trade posts around the city's two commercial harbours.   The climate of Gaal Ind is warm all year round with a dry summer and autumn and plentiful spring rains, though the mountain protects the city from the monsoon.   The inhabitants of the city are a majority human (mostly the local Mettyans, who are pressed into service as labourers by the Grithi), with a substantial minority of tieflings and numerous dragonborn, gnomes and humans from the Three Cathaya as well as dwarves from the nearby hold of Volerum.
