Ares, the Bloody-handed Warrior
Little is known about Ares except for his exploits in combat. He was said to have been an immensely strong, though ill-tempered man, who thrived in competition and often resorted to physical violence. He was elevated to godhood as the chief warrior of the saviour-titans, and acted as the 'tip of the spear' in every engagement; these constant combats and his exposure to the corrupting influence of Typhon's essence sent him mad even before he struck the final blow in the last battle. His close counterpart in the dwarven pantheon is Mavors Bellavis Ultor, the vengeful god of fulfilling grudges.
Ares is venerated by warriors who seek his blessing, though offerings are made to him to avert the evils of warfare and strife, especially those who are forced into war against their will, seeking strength and courage.
Appearance: Ares is portrayed as both an ardent young warrior and an older veteran, in peak physical condition, always fully equipped for battle. He is invoked in the harsh sounds of battle-trumpets and war-cries, and in the blood and gore of combat.
Symbols: Ares is primarily symbolised by the spear and sword, his two primary weapons, especially those dripping with fresh blood. He is also represented by a victory trophy of captured enemy arms and armour. His animal is the lion.
Personality: At his best, Ares is righteously enraged and courageous against all odds, at worst a frenzied and indiscriminate killer. Ares is short-tempered and direct, and seeks combat for glory, plunder and power.
