Pixie

Pixies are a small humanoid flying race. They are found in forested areas, but you do tend to see them in some plains and some swamp areas as well. They are not intelligent creatures but do travel in small packs. They aren't combative but have little regard for others even in their own species. Because of this, people see them as mischievious creatures that cause havoc.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pixies stand at between 1 to 3 inches. They can range in color from a light green to a light blue color. A humanoid form with two arms and two legs with tiny hands. Pixie wings vary in size between half of the pixies size to the full size of the pixies. Usually smaller pixies have wings that are the size of their body and larger pixies have wings closer to half of their entire body. A pixie is connected to their surroundings and tend to gain characteristics of where they live. Growing leaf like structure on their skin or moldy patterns.

Genetics and Reproduction

Pixies take a few minutes on a tree or ground and begin to form a blob. They grab a piece of their surrounding and create a secretion from their hands. This is eventually formed into a spherical blob and some pxiies can grab more of their surroundings to make it look like a mushroom, rock, leaf, or vine. The blob will remain dormant until another Pixie spreads their own secretion onto the blob. The blob will harden and produce a light glow, three weeks after the insemination of the blob a pixie will crack through and the process has finished.   The blob gets it's nutrients from the ground soil or the tree that it's connected to. It creates a root like structure below the ground or uses the roots that the tree it's connected to, to siphon nutrients for the pixie.

Growth Rate & Stages

While the pixie is in the blob, it grows from an ant-like formation and eventually grows into a humanoid shape. By the end of this transformation, it is able to break from the blob's shell and is about 1/3 of the size that it will grow into. Newborn pixies tend to resemble it's enviornment more and is smaller than a full grown pixie. During the first 3 months of the pixie's life, it is still growing and hasn't learned how to fly. It walks around collecting plants, fruits, nuts, or anything it can find to grow and eat.   After these 3 months, the pixie learns to fly and is considered a full grown pixie. For another year the pixie is considered an adult. It moves around go about it's business. The last 3 months of the pixies life, it begins to reproduce by creating and searching for different blobs in their habitat.

Ecology and Habitats

Pixies live in forests, swamps, and some pixies are known to life in plains. Usually, plain pixies cannot fly and tend to walk and may hover.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Pixies don't have any form of government or idea of property. They live where they go, and they eat what they find. If they are hungry, they will go out and search for food and eat the food as soon as they find it.   Pixies are easily entertained and find items or trinkets that they find interesting and keep them until they grown bored of them. Small items may go missing when pixies are near and may be found elsewhere during a trek.

Biological Cycle

Pixies only live about a year and a half. During seasons where food is less abudant, pixies tend to sleep more to conserve energy. On average pixies sleep around 4 hours a day, however, during lean times, they can sleep up to 9 hours a day.   Rain and any heavy percipitation tends to disuade pixies from flying. Pixies have very basic shelter structure that they use to protect themselves from the rain. This can be stick propped against walls with leaves on top. These shelters could be as simple a hole in a tree or a cliff that protrudes out to keep anyone safe from the elements.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Because pixies are in tune with their surroundings, they can connect to plants and have a very basic neural system that runs through the enviornment. When they connect with the ground or a tree and concentrate they can sense basic movement and vaugely sense size of the thing making the movement. Depending on the pixie they may also have darkvision. Usually, the only pixies that don't have darkvision are ones that live in plains.
