Magic/relic Items in Calradia

Magic Items have a major role to play in Calradia, not just for adventurers, but for societies as well.   Many of the magic items that exist in Calradia fall into 2 main categories: Items with man-made enchantments, and items forged/created by a deity and bestowed to an individual of the mortal plane, with the Later being much more powerful than the former.   Regarding man-made enchantments, there are rune smiths and alchemists who are able to inscribe magical properties into weapons, armour, jewelry etc using special magic scripts and vast amounts of magical components. These items have grown less uncommon over the centuries, as more and more were produced, but are still very rare. It is unlikely to find anyone other than someone of significant authority wielding a magical weapon. Significant wealth is required to purchase such a weapon, and their effects are usually relatively simple simple, such as making the weapon cause a small amount of additional magic damage, or providing resistance to diseases etc.   Meanwhile, holy relics and other deity forged items are incredibly rare, and are found in only 2 primary ways. First you can sometimes find them in ruins, caves, or ancient battlefields, where they were lost, abandoned, or stolen and stashed by some creature. Second, is that many are in the posession of leaders of nations or major organizations. Relic weapons in the posession of an authority figure often act as their proof of ancestry, and as a symbol of their divinely ordained right to rule. For example, Brannon Vuin or "The Beloved Lord" is the Longsword gifted to the Emperor of Calradia upon his ascension by Saint Alesia, and has been held as a symbol of imperial authority since the 2nd age. The loss of such a weapon would be disastrous to national prestige. Not only this, but the items are often extremely powerful, and grant the wielder significant power, and they would be weaker without them. All the nations' leaders on the continent have at least 1 Relic item in their possession, with the exception of the Swadians.   There is talk that, as monsters have begun to resurface, ancient places long sealed have been reopened, and treasure hunters have began to search for them to loot for precious relic items of the past.
