Writing System

The runes used to write in infernal have no actual set meanings. Instead, runes of specific kinds are used when attempting to communicate certain kinds of ideas, and are then infused with magic to carry an effect into any who should read them. For beasts and daemons of the Shadowfell this is effective, as it transmits the ideas directly through magic into their heads, and they gain immediate comprehension of the ideas that were written.    However, this writing can be dangerous for mortals, as the writings literally will attempt to input their ideas directly into the head of the reader. As such, even witnessing such runes can have complex and dangerous implications for mortal readers. While not all those who read them are effected, many have reported seeing dark visions or hearing voices in their head after reading such writings. Some rare accounts by theologians even attest that Daemons who infuse their own magics into runes can possess mortals through them.    For the above reasons, Infernal runes are almost universally destroyed upon their discovery, due to their use in allowing beings of the Shadowfell to effect the mortal plane. Some extremely rare examples have been rumored to have been retained by holy orders for study.
