Freedom's Passage
Freedom's passage is an organisation dedicated to helping every individual on Awen get to live a life as a free individual. They work not only to help people who live within Caerdinistr but they also work to make sure those that managed to escape a life under the control of others, manage to safely integrate into the general populous of Awen and thrive in their new homes. Whilst our main work is with the people of Caerdinistr, due to the nature of their government they are often the ones most in need, but Freedom's Passage is here to serve anyone who seeks freedom and we promise to always try our hardest to help those that want it.
Mission and Purpose
The main purpose of Freedom's Passage is to ensure that every person that shows the desire to live freely, get that chance.
We work tirelessly to ensure only the safe passage of any person seeking freedom from Caerdinistr and we also promise asylum to anyone in need.
Here at Freedom's Passage we understand that freedom doesn't end with just being away from your abuser, as such we also keep in constant contact with those that we help. We work with each individual and do what we can to let them build the future they want, this can be finding housing, jobs, communities and even funding studies.
We believe here after living through traumas and without your freedom you deserve everything possible to build the life you want.
Origins
Freedom's Passage was originally started by Thalai Hopebringer Ogolakanu, one of the few surviving Goliath's after the war of between Swyn Coed and Caerdinistr and the creation of Arenshedd. Thalai's was only 5 years old when the war that completely altered Awen started, the war lasted several years and due to most Goliath clans living in the North of Awen, they all faced huge amounts of devastation. When the mountain range Arenshedd rose from the ground the few settlements that had survived the war were completely destroyed, the alteration of the continent in such a violent way caused the displacement of thousands of people and more deaths than were ever counted. Thalai themselves had lost their father, sister and entire home during the war and by the age of 10 had seen more than any adult should have to. Thankfully they still had their Mother, Vaunea Steadyhand Ogolakanu, who after watching her entire clan be destoryed knew she needed to create a home for herself and her child.
Watching their Mother build a community from the ground up with nothing but some refugees and her own tenacity, built Thalai into the type of person that had a strong desire to help others and create the best community they could. Whilst Vaunea built bridges with the leader of different Elven and Orc communities in order to create the haven of Ffoaduriaid, Thalai was learning from the multitude of different cultures they were being exposed to and creating a culture unlike any other. During Thalai's early adulthood they involved themselves in many areas of the community, from building structures and fishing to putting on community performances but it wasn't until they were in there 40's that they would find their true calling.
Whilst on a one of many fruitless hunting hikes, Thalai heard something coming from further into the mountain range. Hoping it was finally some animals they followed the sounds. They were horrified by the dying elf they found. She was just 16 years old and from the state of her it was obvious she'd been starving for much longer than how long she'd been in the mountain.
Thalai did all they could to help the young elf but her condition was horrendous and they needed help if the young elf was going to survive. They picked up the girl and carried her home, straight to the healers of Ffoaduriaid. Whilst the healers did their job in keeping the young elf alive, it was obvious to the community that she must have come from Caerdinistr and many wished to immediately outcast the girl. Thalai refused to allow this to happen and not only offered their own protection but also forced their mother to stand by her side. One of the founders of Ffoaduriaid and their child demanding asylum for this elf greatly effected the community and they decided she was welcome in their community.
That small win was not enough for Thalai however. During the processes of protecting the elf they learnt a lot about Carewyn and Caerdinistr. What they learnt lit a huge passion within Thalai and they spent the remander of their life building secret passages from Caerdinistr to Ffoaduriaid and creating a network of people willing to help those that wish to escape Caerdinistr.
This network has been growing for the last 450 years and turned into a huge organisation, over most of Awen, dedicated to helping those seeking freedom. There are now freedom passage outposts in Pentree Mock and Teyrnas Draig and thousands of members dedicated to raising money, supplying asylum to those in need and helping refugees settle into their new lives.
