Wand of the War Mage +1 and a short sword.

Tactics
Stay in the back, cast a lot destructive magic, and aiding magic the foot soldiers.
Training
Basic training from The Academy of Magic, and years of training as foot soldiers as well. If they pass those two training regiments, they'll increase in rank, and be trained in higher destructive magic.

Happens through the The Academy of Magic where trainee wizards, will be picked out, if they seem to be in a good physical condition (somewhat strong or agile), and aren't smart enough to further their studies at the Academy, but too smart to get the more menial jobs.
