Horizon Walkers

The path of the horizon walker is one taken by adventurers whose goals are to explore and map out the plethora of environments within and even beyond the Material Plane. Those explorers who have an irresistible sense of curiosity and wanderlust to travel take the path in order to gain an innate connection to their surroundings, whatever those surroundings might be. As horizon walkers become more experienced, they treat their surroundings as part of themselves, which gives them special abilities and senses to protect them from the dangers of incessant travel.
"Okay lad, listen up. Head 'round the back of the tavern, enter the outhouse and close the door behind ye. Turn to face northwest and stand on your left foot, then jump. Got it? Good. See ye on the otherside."   - Rurik Opalhammer
Horizon walking is often a solitary profession, although Walkers do sometimes cross paths with one another on their travels. It is common for Walkers to carry with them Sending Stones, allowing them to communicate briefly with another Walker who has matching stones, wherever they may be in the Aurbis. Once in a long while Horizon walkers will agree to meet at a particular location on the same plane where they share their tales and experiences with one another, as well as a drink.

Structure

There is no official structure or leadership regarding the Horizon walkers nor do they have a fixed headquarters. Horizon walkers usually operate alone or in pairs, although on rare occasions you may find a small group cooperating towards a common goal.

Public Agenda

The goal of the Horizon walkers is more of a private duty as most of the knowledge about the group is unknown to those outside of it. Horizon walkers guard the world against threats that originate from other planes or that seek to ravage the mortal realm with otherworldly magic. They seek out planar portals and keep watch over them, venturing to the Inner Planes and the Outer Planes as needed to pursue their foes. These rangers are also friends to any forces in the Aurbis – especially benevolent dragons, fey, and elementals – that work to preserve life and the order of the planes.
