The Justice Acolytes are a branch of the Order of Velorum based in Rainegate which are an order of religious knights wearing a green surcoat clad in armour who were a devout group of Velorum worshippers - Most of which were descendants of an unnamed human tribe that joined the Kingdom of Rainegate during the Age of Three, They also served as Rainegate's main elite police force and are entrusted to perform duties above most other organisations bar the Grand Assembly and the Crown itself.
Appearance
Regulations put in place by the Order of Velorum had the acolytes wear a green surcoat under or over their armour to represent the God of Insight. Most of the devout are blind and thus either wear blindfolds, hoods, specially designed helmets that cover only their eyes or a whatever mix of these were chosen by the acolyte. Though the Order specifies that the green surcoat of Velorum must be worn at all times, The choice of armour was left to the individual - Ranging from light leather armour that with a single shoulderpad to heavier plate armour and a choice of helmets.
Background
Sometime in the Age of Three just before the elves arrived, An unnamed human tribe came upon Rainegate's shores - Devout worshippers of Velorum the god of Insight. They had heard about the celestial object that tore it's way through the northern coast of Kingsbury and voyaged from their homeland to assist their fellow humans, Seemingly knowing about the threat that lay on the horizon. Though innately blind the Crown saw personally their surprising prowess in combat as what the Kingdom needed to defeat this malevolent force. So then it was Decreed that the Church of Velorum would come to be the foundation of the Order, After the creation of the Justice Acolytes they were forthwith sent out to the human realms on a crusade to seek facets of The Hollowing and destroy it.
After the Hollowing threat however the Order of Velorum decided to stay with the Kingdom and for their duties in securing a safer era for all they were given somewhere to call their own in The Citadel where they would keep their base of operations.
Modern Day
Nowadays the Justice Acolytes served as the elite police force of Rainegate and would roam the streets seeking out eldritch threats that the common populace have long forgotten about - The Edict of Silence has had a deep impact on how the Order operates and now any sign or even having knowledge of the unknown enemies could be cause for capital punishment, Because of this the Acolytes have been seen as a totalitarian organisation due to rumours of spies in green cloaks, unsavoury characters within The Citadel, And tales of people being dragged from their homes. The Order believes it's best for these rumours to circulate rather than those stories in which they almost singlehandedly saved the old Kingdom from plunging into complete madness.
The Citadel
Based in the capital of Avellonis, The city of Rainegate houses the headquarters of the order where they have been granted passage to build a mighty citadel sitting upon one of the islands on the eastern beach of the capital, Heavily fortified only by the most trusted and reputable members of the order.
