Birth Death in Basqierf
Birth
General
A child's birth is celebrated with a parade through the city. They will start at the top of Basqierf at sunrise and make their way throughout the city to the bottom where mother and child will bathe in the river of Askion. They are showered with gifts on their journey and those celebrating sing the "Song of Life" which is also sung at the mourning of a person's death. Those celebrating light Purpura Lanterns as the mother and child are carted past them, celebrating their life beginning.
Prominent Figures
When a child is born to a prominent figure within the city, the mother and father begin their journey through the city at sunrise. They are often celebrated by the entire city to welcome new life and the potential they bring. The children are given lots of gifts from the city people and the mother receives many gifts as well. The mother who is recovering from birth, rides on a bed of pillows in a small cart pulled by the father and another of their close relatives.
Citizens
When a child is born to a regular citizen of Baqierf, they are still given the traditional ceremony through the city. Their mother is still carried through Basqierf, however it is not as widely viewed and celebrated by as many. They are still given gifts and pulled by those who love them most. All children are celebrated with purpura lanterns and songs. Many who are observing also join in on celebrating the new child.
Death
General
A persons death is usually celebrated with a parade through the city. The journey will begin at the top of Basqierf and make its way down to the bottom. The casket will be burned or buried when it reaches the bottom. As the casket makes its way down it passes many gathered to mourn the deceased. Those gathered hold Purpura Lanterns that they blow out as the deceased passes them to mourn their life ending. Those mourning also sing the "Song of Life" which is also sung at the celebration of a person's birth.
Prominent Figures
When a prominent figure in Basiqierf passes away, the people of the city join in the streets at night. They gather to celebrate the life of one who has uplifted and served their community. The people gather and hold Purpura Lanterns and sing. The deceased is placed in an open glass casket and dressed in the garments of their station. The casket is carried by family members and friends as it is taken through the city to be viewed by the people who loved them.
Citizens
When regular citizens of basqierf pass away, they are still given the traditional ceremony through the city. Their casket is still carried through Basqierf, however it is not as widely viewed and celebrated by as many. They are dressed in their finest outfits and carried by those who love them most. All deceased are celebrated with purpura lanterns and songs. When someone is being carried on their journey, the people moruning sing to honor them, and those passing by will also join in to honor the passed.
The Song of Life
The song of life is a traditional Krhiuhgoran song sung at the birth and death of a persons life. The song tells the story of someone's life from their birth to their death. The song wishes them well in the afterlife and wishes for glory in their life. It is known by every citizen in Krhiuhgor and especially in Basqierf. The song will occasionally be sung at birthday parties if they wish.
Time and Light
Journeys of Birth start at sunrise to represent their life beginning as the day begins. Lanterns are lit despite the sun rising to represent the same thing. A person's Final Journey begins at sundown to represent their life has ended and by sunrise they will begin their new journey in the afterlife. Lanterns are blown out despite the sun setting to represent the same thing.
