Dragonborn

The dragonborn of Caith Murain are a proud and powerful species, deeply tied to their draconic heritage. Whether or not the tales of their descent from Arlene, the god of dragons, are true, the dragonborn hold their ancestry as a badge of honor. Known for their fierce independence and warrior spirit, they walk a fine line between solitary ambition and communal strength, coming together only in times of great need or purpose.

Physical Traits

  • Lifespan: Dragonborn mature by age 30 and typically live up to 200 years, though the most vigorous among them have been known to push beyond that limit.
  • Appearance: Dragonborn are tall and imposing, standing 6 to 7 feet in height, with scales that shimmer in hues reflecting their draconic lineage. Their eyes glow faintly with inner fire or frost, and their horns vary in shape and size.
  • Breath Weapon: Upon reaching maturity, each dragonborn manifests a breath weapon tied to their elemental affinity, such as fire, ice, lightning, acid, or poison. This is seen as a rite of passage and a mark of adulthood.

Cultural Traits

1. Fierce Individualism

Dragonborn are deeply independent, often valuing personal strength, honor, and achievement above all else. Their communities are small, tight-knit, and typically organized around mutual respect rather than rigid hierarchies.

2. Warrior Spirit

The dragonborn pride themselves on their martial prowess, with combat seen as a noble art. Even dragonborn who are not warriors display discipline and confidence in their chosen fields, whether they be scholars, artisans, or merchants.

3. Elemental Pride

The type of breath weapon a dragonborn develops plays a significant role in their identity. Fire-breathers are known for their passion, frost-breathers for their resilience, lightning-breathers for their quick wit, and so on. Friendly rivalries often emerge between dragonborn of different elements.

4. Deep Spirituality

Dragonborn revere Arlene, the dragon god, as both their progenitor and guide. While not all are devout, most pay homage to Arlene during significant life events, such as the Breath Rite ceremony when a young dragonborn manifests their breath weapon.
