After Thorn’s death, chaos again loomed. Into this turmoil stepped Isolde Merrow, a former diplomat and spy who had long served in Armuun’s clandestine network. Using deception, blackmail, and her mastery of court politics, she eliminated her rivals and declared herself Sovereign with the backing of the Council of Governors.

Isolde reigned through intrigue rather than force. She stabilized the empire through diplomacy, reopening trade routes and using covert influence to restore Bechtlarite prestige abroad. But internally, her rule became one of shadows, paranoia, secret policing, and purges of “disloyal” officials. Under her, the Obsidian Veil (Armuun’s old intelligence network) was reborn as an omnipresent surveillance state.
