The Legion Of Progress

To average folk, the Legion is an enigma. People are hesitant to trust them because they create outlandish and enigmatic devices to various ends, yet people do not know how. What is known is the Legion's singular goal. The Legion aims to advance the world of Caeteria forward in terms of technology. The world has relied on magic for millennia, yet it was mostly out of reach for the common man. Now the legion looks to use technology to improve the lives of people everywhere, sometimes including magic in the mix, other times not. The legion has no particular hatred of magic users, indeed many members of the Legion are magic users themselves. The Legion has strict entry criteria, and most who associate themselves with them never even achieve an inducted rank, remaining merely associates. The legion currently bases itself out of Eagle Island, a nation that has aligned itself greatly with the Legion’s goals, although the nation has representatives spread all across the world. Members of the legion are usually easily identified by their grey robes and leather harness, although some members choose to eschew these trappings apart from in ceremonial occasions.

Structure

The Legion is currently roughly divided into five divisions. The first is the Legio Mortia, Headed by the manic dwarf Bodok Runehammer. This division specialises in the development of tools of war, and is by far the most profitable of the Legion’s divisions, as nations will always buy weapons. The second division is the Legio Magika, headed by the High Elf Sybella Castratum. This division pursues the advancement of the arcane arts, and contains many magic practitioners from runesmiths and enchanters through to wizards and sorcerers. The third division is the Legio Manipular, headed by the Gnome Evrett Grubknee. This division specialises in transport and logistics, and is responsible for such advances as the airship, or steam powered minecarts. The fourth is the Legio Mundia, headed by the Half-Elf Willow Flowerblossom. This is the most wide-ranging of the divisions and is responsible for the advances that affect the most people, from simple things such as pans that heat up more quickly, to devices for washing clothing. The fifth and final legion is also the smallest. Under the guidance of the Goliath, Kirrim Ger-Setyet, The Legio Mercia undertakes archaeological digs and delves into the hidden secrets of the past, hoping to find some glimmer of knowledge that can advance the world in the knowledge of the past. Rumours abound amongst Legion members that a secretive, sixth legio exists, that specialises in delving into secrets the religious authorities of Caeteria would decree profane and heretical. No evidence has come to light of this Legio's existence.

Culture

The members of the Legion tend to view the world as a big toolbox, full of problems to be solved and new paths to be forged.

Public Agenda

The Legion exists to serve the betterment of all people, and this the message they push. They laud their inventions as great leaps forward and insist that progress is the best of things.

Assets

The Legion Of Progress has warehouses stocked full of equipment all over the world. They create some of the most powerful weapons in all of Caeteria. They have significant gold reserves too, as they sell their creations to willing bidders the world over. In addition, the Legion are the only group capable of creating Airships, in their yards in Serene Vialgo. As such, they have the largest fleet of airships in the world.
