Historical Government
Historical City States (Epocha Sortarius)
- Individual states were led by liege lords, although academic leaders in research organizations and monasteries were considered upper class and highly respected community leaders
- Landowners were the most powerful nobles regardless of religious affiliation
- Largely a feudal system, raiders were a large issue, in-fighting was an issue between different clans that staked claims on the same acres of land
Kingdoms (Epocha Cruciarus/Sanctus)
- The city states consolidated into Kingdoms based around devotion to different Gods, mostly delineated between Ethrys’ Pantheon and the New Gods.
- Religious leaders achieved significantly more prominence as churches started to amass huge amounts of influence. The King or Queen of the kingdom required the endorsement of the individual church leader in order to legally ascend to the throne.
- If ecclesiastical endorsement was rescinded, they would face a trial from the other nobles for their actions. If the King was found guilty of committing any major crimes and/or not guiding the country based on the will of the Gods, they would be removed and a new leader would be instituted. If the church leader was found to have suggested removal erroneously, then they would be removed from their position of power in the church. In the few instances where the King was accused of heresy, the court almost always sided with the religious leader.
- Military leaders also frequently had ecclesiastical endorsement, although this was more of a formality and was ceremonial at best in terms of actual control. However, military leaders supported by the church would be valued and be given more input than ones without explicit support, even if the two officers had the same rank.
Federal Monarchy (The Reformation)
The kingdoms from the Epocha Sanctus have been reorganized into one large Caesium Empire, headed by a single Emperor while still recognizing various monarchs in their old kingdoms, now referred to as states. The central government is organized into a House of Lords, a House of Commons, and a Divinity Branch, with one Emperor.- House of Lords: the Kings from the different states, as well as three Lords the King chooses to include in their federal council. The King will elect one of their Lords to speak for them when they cannot be present. The colonies each may send in one Lord to speak for them (23 total).
- House of Commons: Ten individuals from any background elected by the public from each different kingdom (50 total).
- Divinity Branch: The Pontifax of The Church of Ethrys’ Pantheon, as well as their five archbishops, and two representatives from each of the four main New Gods across the empire (14 total).
- The Emperor: Appointed for life, or until they decide to retire.
- The Emperor’s successor is chosen by the current Emperor from a group of three candidates, each nominated by one branch of the central government.
- There have been three Emperors under this form of government: Ariele Viscuso, Lierin Holybrand, and Eno de Morin (the current emperor).
