Chasing The Whale

History

In the southern part of the Callasa Borough, to the west of the Leviathan casino, there is a whole block made up of taverns and bars that starts with the Ox and Hammer Club and ends with the Laughing Monkey Bar. These bars are known as the Globe Street Taverns, named after the floating magical globe statue in the Globe Street Plaza nearby. Going to each of the Globe Street Taverns in one night is historically recognized as the Best Damn Bar Crawl in the Empire – it’s called Chasing the Whale and Vetrosi gift shops sell shirts that say “I Caught The Whale In Vetrios And All I Got Was This Stupid T Shirt”   The “Whale” people are chasing refers to the elusive, legendary (and probably mythical) White Whale that supposedly lives in Whitefin Bay. Whitefin Bay’s name refers to the schools of whitefin that the Vetrios fishing economy was based around centuries ago, but literally everyone has spread the rumor that it’s about a Big Mysterious White Whale since the city was founded.   If you see the whale, try to figure out what direction he’s traveling: a whale swimming west is a sign of upcoming bad luck, but a whale swimming east means upcoming good luck! This superstition was probably originally based on ocean migratory patterns, but now every Vetrosi native will swear by it. Some studies have even proven that soil from farmland on the eastern side of Vetrios is a bit more nutritious compared to soil from the west.

Directions

Six pubs take part around the town, each staffed by a cleric or volunteer that has taken a potion to increase their perception exponentially. The first to down two drinks from each bar and report to a seventh priest in the center of town will receive a minor magical token as a reward for making it to the end. The Globe Street Taverns are typically visited in this order:
  • Nicholai’s Big Bad Bloodpit Bar & Grill
  • The Laughing Monkey
  • The Lizard Wizard
  • Home on the Range
  • The Rickety Witch
  • The Ox and Hammer Club

Famous Drinks

Screaming Flamingo: It glows so brightly pink that it's hard to look at directly.     Blind Beholder: A drink made from material found only in the Underdark. Tastes somewhat musty, but has an incredible kick; doesn't take much to make the world start spinning. Anyone attempting to cast a spell while still tipsy or drunk from this drink risks a 50% chance of the spell backfiring. Disadvantage on any Perception checks relying on sight.   Ultra Necro Death Punch Extreme: You're handed a tiny champagne glass filled with light blue bubbles. They tingle as they go down. DC 18 regardless of drinks consumed so far. If you succeed you will have Truesight for the rest of the night and you can hear colors.
