Hallows' House

As seen in
The Hallow's House isn't a haven, but a crucible. A place to face the fire and emerge stronger, or be consumed by its flames.
~ Unknown
The Hallow's House... A terrifying prospect, yet a flicker of hope burns within me. Maybe, just maybe, this is where the nightmare ends.
~ Survivor seeking healing
They say the Hollows' House takes more than it gives. But what choice do I have? I'm already a prisoner of my own past.
~ Survivor trapped by trauma

Manifestation

This happens once a year, every year. For those who are awake, it is always misty when it happens and the people feel a sense of dread. Most people steer away from this area. Those who do find this house have suffered significant emotional and/or physical trauma. Entering this house forces the abused to confront their history and break free of it. But those who don't break free are never seen again.

Localization

Every city or town that has population over 1500 will have a Hallows's House appear. This house will appear in an empty lot (usually a wooded area) in the dawn hours of 31 Nocurnalis and disappears at twilight on 2 Solistice.

Now, I know. (shudders) I've been in many places that have met the population requirement. I've looked out the window or been walking down the street with mist swirling on the ground and through the air. I've felt the dread slithering along my spine. (as much as I hate leaning into cliches, they are cliches for a reason) I never gave it a second thought about why I stayed away from deserted or wooded areas. How could I have known?

I can't say I know if I've met someone who has been a victim of abuse or been trapped by past trauma. If I'd known, I would have advised them to call the The Haven Helpline & Center and sent them on their way. I do not know how to handle such people. But it's also easy for me to tell someone to make that call. I understand enough to know that actually making the call is difficult. Perhaps the risk of this house is worth it. I supposed for someone in that situation, ending it one way or another is a good thing. Right?
