Violetta Cq'linns Addelia

Violetta is the main female character of the Injustice series.

Her parents were Kali Cq'linns, a human who died in childbirth, and Vrehn Cq'linns, a full-blood native K'laisian who was murdered when Violetta was 18. All her life she wanted to be a police officer for the 42nd District of K'lais. She believed if she chose the military, people would think she was being 'given' her positions/ranking due to her father. (A mistaken belief, for the opposite would have been true: she would have had to earn everything.)

At the Academy, she was treated as "less" than a full-blood native, due to being of mixed heritage. As such, she had to prove herself over and over again. After graduating the Academy with high marks, she received a position within the homicide division of the 42nd District Police Service. There, she was teamed up with Issik Ha’wkworth. She remained his partner for the entire time she was a member of the police service. Upon departing the police service, Violetta is offered a position with the military in covert operations as an investigator. She ultimately ends up as being the "figure head" for many of the covert operations of the 42nd District. That doesn't mean she isn't involved in the investigations, quite the contrary. She was frequently involved with all the investigations in one way or another. After Depth of Injustice, she is informed she will have even more duties and resposibilities due to the investagation in the 32nd District. With that information comes the knowledge that she will now have a unit under her own command, whereas before she worked closely with Commander Lyress Ap'errson and Commander Toriz Da'kaw and their units.

Violetta's Gift is creating shields using manipulated energy. A Gift her father insisted she learn and improve upon until it was as good as a being of mixed heritage could make it. Along with ensuring her Gift was honed to prefection, Vrehn also taught his daughter everything he knew about the military. From how to find her way without a compass or map, to walking as silently as a native, to hand-to-hand combat. Vrehn also taught her how to use a sword from the moment she could walk, as well as K'lais' history and the legends about the 42nd District. Vrehn insisted Violetta learn how to be vigilant and observant from a very early childhood.

Her father's credo was: Adapt and Survive, no matter the cost. That credo was ingrained into Violetta. It is something she remembers and holds close to her heart. And it is what kept her alive thoughout the Injustice series.

The lessons learned from her father also meant she was quick to Challenge bullies. She earned the nickname "Violence" due to that fact. And the fact she would not hesitate to simply beat-up any bully. That trait followed her into her adulthood, where she continued to Challenge anyone at the Academy who tried to bully or attempt to Match her. Once she joined the police service, she would either Challenge the other person or beat the crap out of them in a sparring match. Her skills with a blade and temperment earned her a reputation. After the first year at the police service, no one tried to bully her or Match her. (Part of that was also due to the fact the military would encourage would-be suitors to 'look elsewhere', unbenownst to her at the time.)

Upon her father's murder, she was still allowed to live in his apartment and keep his military-issue console. It was kept "off the grid and subnets" and keyed only to her DNA. If anyone else attempted to use it, the console would self-destruct and leave only a small databox behind. Despite the fact her ability to remain in her father's apartment was very unusual (the apartments are only allowed to be used by those in the military, retired career military, or the family while a member is in the service), Violetta did not question it. She had the security clearance to not only live there, but to keep the console in her possession. Because she was taught to trust the military, she didn't question the reasoning behind why she was allowed to stay there or keep her father's console.

Violetta's childhood sweetheart is Malik Addelia, whom she later offers her sword (in Weight of Injustice). Malik accepts, officially wedding them and declaring them as mates. It is a bond that cannot be broken. (See Gifting of Swords for more information.) She and Malik have always had a bond that was deeper than either of them ever realized, even as children. (Her father and grandparents, as well as Malik's parents, all recognized it and approved of them. Even when they were children. Such bonds are encouraged by their society, as long as it is a healthy relationship.) Neither she nor Malik acted upon their growing relationship until the night after her father's funeral. Violetta then ignored Malik for five years. Until she needed help after being accused of cold-blooded murder.

Malik aided Violetta throughout Scales of Injustice, and after she was promoted at the end of the novel, they began rekindling their relationship.

They have one child together, Mairi, as well as four adopted children (as of Depth of Injustice): Aleisa, Nalryi, Einor & Severn.

When Violetta was injected with Nanites in Weight of Injustice, she was informed there was a chance the nanites could cause her to be sterile. In reality, what happened was she'd only ever be able to give birth to near-full-blood native K'laisian children. (The child would have to favor his/her native K'laisian genetics more than 75%. Since that may not always happen, no child is conceived. After Malik is injected in Depth of Injustice, the genetics end up having to favor something closer to 90% K'laisian in order for a child to be conceived. Since it is rare for beings of mixed heritages to wed, and rarer still for both to have been injected, it isn't something the healers of K'lais would know for certain. Nor would they inform Malik and Violetta if they believed it would cause mental anguish/harm.)

The inability to conceive is not an issue with either Violetta or Malik. Adoption has always been an option and way of life on K'lais. The children they adopt are as close to their parents as a child could be. Complete with the children adopting the mannerisms of Violetta and Malik.
