The elder beings that became to be called gods spent eons together, creating their own worlds filled with life. Lifetimes were spent watching these life forms grow and evolve from simple beings to complex lifeforms with free thinking and independent thoughts and motives.
Favourites emerged, and not wanting to see their favourite life forms die, the gods gifted immortality to these beings. With limitless time to grow and develop, these beings became immensely powerful. They had lifetimes to perfect their arts, their magic, and their skill in battle. Some vigilantly served the gods who gave them power, while some worked independently from the god that created them, often still working for the same goals or purpose that earned them immortality.
Those around them watched these blessed being never age, never die, and grow in power. These powerful figures became known as servants of the divine, and in many cases were deemed divine by extension. Cults emerged to these new powers, worshiping these them as gods that walked among the mortals.
Demigods come in many forms and their origins, gifts, and general power varies wildly. Many of the oldest demigods were either Aura Born that never became full gods, or the celestial or fiendish creations of the gods that earned or gained enough power to ascend to minor divinity. In either case, these beings are immensely powerful.
In some case, demigods are seen as a bridge between mortals and full gods. They are sometimes sent on behalf of gods to aid their followers, or sometimes arrive to help mortals who are engaged in something of interest to that demigod. They can send messages and aid, and are known to have much smaller followings, allowing them to be more direct or hands on with their cults.
Though many demigods act with gods, they are independent powers. They have their own goals, motives, and politics completely separate from other gods, though as with all political and social structures, there is a lot of intertwining of gods and politics in the divine as well. When it became clear there was differences in power between the various celestial and divine beings, they adopted political titles. The elder gods became known as the Theos, while the younger or less powerful beings became known as the Hethos. Eventually, many of these new divine beings ascended further and became full gods, earning the title of Theos as well.
Demigods are very involved in divine politics, and there are many different types of semi divine beings out there. The first ones were called Celestial Lords, as many of them ascended from the first race the gods made, the Celestials. After the merging of The Aura and The Void, Demons were seen to have a clear social and power structure as well, and Demon Lords were added to the semi divine ranks.
More fiendish lords appeared when As'Meus took the celestial lords loyal to him into exile after the Divine Wars, warping them from angelic beings into fiendish terrors known today as The Archfiends of Bae'Tor. Usher of Death, Lords of Axis and Lords of Chaos also emerged, though to many they are still seen as celestials.
The final beings to rise to the rank and power of semi divine were mortals. It is very rare for a mortal to gain enough power for this rank, but ascending is possible. Many recognize these ascended mortals as being powerful, but few divine or semi divine beings see them as actually divine. They are known as the Elemental Lords, the Arch Fey, the Dark Lords, and the Ascended.
Celestial Lords, Celestial Paragons, Arch Angels, these are all names for the semi divine beings that emerged from celestials. Though most believe that celestials are good, that is not the case. Many celestials are very moral, and this extends to the Celestial Lords as well, but many are older than the concept of good and evil. Any Celestial Lord who strays too far from goodness finds they essence corrupted, and they start to take on the form of a fiend as they turn evil, becoming a Fiendish Lord, but within the ranks of the celestials are a variety of non evil beings that are not always good. Within the ranks of Celestial Lords are the Lords of Axis who are defined by their desire for order above all else, and the Lords of Chaos who are defined by their desire for chaos or freedom.
The fiendish demigods range from devil to demon with a variety of other species in between. They are almost always evil, though some can be defined more for their desire for order or chaos more than their desire for evil. They tend to be selfish, self serving, and interested in power, prestige or wealth over all else.
Many know of the various Demon Lords, the great powers of The Void who want pain, suffering and sin. Many are capable of achieving full divinity, but the power struggle in the Abyss typically sees them killed before they can actually achieve this power. Archfiends of Bae'Tor on the other hand are so ordered and structured that achieving any more power requires dethroning one above you, something that is hard to do without the approval of the god of Bae'Tor, As'Meus.
