Adamantine

Properties

Material Characteristics

Adamantine has a beautiful shine that can appear green under candlelight and purple-white under magic light.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is ferromagnetic, meaning that it is attracted to magnets. Additionally, it is largely unaffected by seawater, which is quite impressive considering how corrosive seawater can be to most other metals. In fact, dwarves have been known to brine adamantine in order to give it an even better shine. But the most interesting property of adamantine is how well it conducts magic. This makes it an excellent choice for enchantments, as it is highly compatible with most magical spells and abilities. In fact, many wizards and sorcerers seek out adamantine specifically for this reason. It is also incredibly durable and long-lasting, making it a popular choice for weapons and armor.

Compounds

Adamantine is a rare alloy that is composed of a few different metals, including adamantium, silver, and electrum. The exact composition of the alloy can vary depending on the source and the intended use.

Geology & Geography

Adamantine is not an easy metal to come by, as it is often found deep within the earth or in meteorites. Due to its rarity and strength, it is considered a valuable material and is highly sought after by blacksmiths and craftsmen alike.

Origin & Source

Despite its extreme hardness, adamant is so brittle that weapons or shields forged from the metal can be easily shattered by another metal weapon or even a hardwood staff or club. It offers great protection against both magical and natural flames and is inherently immune to all elemental effects. It is among the hardest, lightest, and most brittle ores on the planet, primarily being used in the creation of the alloy adamantine. Adamant is extremely rare, found within volcanic areas, meteorites, and even rarer mineral veins. It is glossy black in appearance and reflects images with a distinct rainbow outline. The pure form of adamant is not used in the forging of weapons and armor due to its brittleness. However, adamant styluses are used to etch inscriptions and ornamental designs into other metal items.
According to legend, when a moonstone dragon passes away, its heart transforms into a lump of the rare and highly prized metal known as adamantite.
