Vraxanai

The Vraxanai are a humanoid-draconic species native to the obsidian mountains, petrified valleys, and volcanic plains of Vraxanyth - a northern land of deep magic, molten stone, and wind-torn peaks.

Born with quiet power, the Vraxanai live their early lives in humanesque forms, yet their nature hides a greater truth. When they undergo their Velthari Metamorphosis, their dormant dragon-blood awakens, transforming them into formidable winged beings with gleaming scales and elemental breath. They are creatures of fire, hunger, laughter, and desire.

• Height: Males: Towering between 6’ to 7’ feet, some even taller post-transformation.
• Females: Rarely exceed 5’10”, but are considered dangerously radiant in strength, agility, and allure.
• Pre-Velthari Appearance: Smooth skin with subtle scale-trails—each Vraxanai has a unique pattern and type: obsidian-glass, riverstone, garnet-glinting, moon-pale, or crackling ember-streaked.
• Eyes range from bright citrine to blood-ruby to volcanic ash-grey, with slit pupils that widen in darkness or arousal.
• Some are bald with horn-ridges; others have lustrous dark hair woven with Aether threads.

Post-Metamorphosis (Velthari)

• Full wings, often as wide as their body is tall, with Aether-threaded membranes.
• Fully scaled bodies, iridescent or matte, smooth or jagged - no two alike.
• They gain elemental breath and flight, enhanced senses, and sharper instincts.
• Magical heat trails across their skin when angry or emotionally overwhelmed.

The Vraxanai are known across the Northern Kingdoms for their fervent emotional range, lavish affections, and boundless appetites - for love, for passion, and for life.

Affectionate & Touch-Oriented:

• They touch freely: cheek brushes, thigh taps, wrist clasps. It is normal to wake with someone’s arm around you even if you're strangers.
• Flinching earns an apologetic retreat - but it’s also seen as offensive.
• Acceptance of touch grants deep favour. Returning touch? That’s an invitation.

Expressive Love Language:

• To shout at someone is not always anger - it many cases it can be foreplay...
• To be indifferent is to be polite. Politeness is cold. Niceness is a sign of disinterest.
• If a Vraxanai is well-behaved toward you, they are not trying to court you.
• To make another cry is a grave emotional crime. They will do anything to make amends - flowers, sky dances, gifts of carved stone, or days of devoted care.

Ambassadorial Intrigue

• Vraxanai see seduction as diplomacy.
• Bedding a foreign diplomat or noble is a conquest, one worth gossiping over for decades.
• It is considered rude not to flirt with a guest. A shared bed is a celebrated alliance.

Promiscuous by nature, passionate by culture. The Vraxanai may take many lovers, but once a mate is chosen, their love becomes eternal, obsessive, and loyal.

A mated Vraxanai will not stray. They will defend their chosen with tooth, flame, and fury.

Jealousy is explosive. If a rival flirts with a mated partner, it can spark duels, air-battles, or cold vengeance.

The Mating Ritual

It is not magical - it is intention. A Vraxanai declares their pursuit by fixing their gaze and never looking away. If more than one Vraxanai wants the same person, The Battle of Claiming begins.

• The pursued must give consent to be fought over.
• Once the victor is crowned, the loser withdraws - or else breaks a sacred cultural law.

Pregnancy is rare and miraculous. The Vraxanai struggle to conceive, even with numerous partners. When a female becomes pregnant, entire enclaves erupt in celebration. The pregnant female is treated as royalty - bathed in scented waters, fed the rarest delicacies, and given gemstone-etched tributes.

Children are treasured and fiercely protected. A youngling’s laughter is said to keep storms at bay.

Hybrids (Vraxanai + human or other race): Becoming more common and slowly normalised. Though often smaller, they undergo full metamorphosis and wield the same magic, earning full cultural acceptance. Many elders believe hybrids are the future of the Vraxanai bloodline, strong and adaptable.

Every Vraxanai experiences the Velthari Metamorphosis, a bodily and spiritual transformation triggered by:

• Age (usually around 50–100 years)
• Intense emotion
• Magical surges (especially from wild Aether)
• Personal trauma or triumph

They retreat into solitude and emerge days or weeks later transfigured, fully draconic in body and soul.
