Summer Camp 2025 - Prep

Within my world their is an area of where wild magic has corrupted the lands - those living in these lands may struggle to find the nourishment they need. Ooooo!! And what happens if what they consume is also corrupted? Oooo....much to ponder....

Although, I am trying not to think of Davina McCall and the Garnier Nutrisse advert... Nutrisse means NOURISH! (hair flip) Eh, you never know, maybe the Aetheri have special magical elixirs that dye and nourish the hair...

I pretty much have round down of the beginning of my world on my front page, complete with map. However, I have actually changed my map slightly and have another continent map to complete so assignment two will be completing that. I will also give a run down of each continent. The Northern Continent has it so much worse than the Southern. I look forward to torturing the denizens of that continent... *laughs in evil writer*

My first worldbuilding project? On World Anvil or ever? If we are going with my first ever attempt to create a world for a novel... Holy sh*t... cringe...cinge...cringe... I had been inspired by the Belgariad series by David Eddings. I was 16/17 at the time. I drew a sad, sad map and created kingdoms that I could probably not pronounce with many commas in the name. Gah! Cringe! OMG, I even started the novel by stating how the world began.....gaaaaaaaahhh!!!! I have grown and learnt so much since then...

Lesson's learnt -

• Use pronounceable names!! Tone down on the commas in the names.
• No info dumps!
• Don't compare your world to others! There is no structure you have to follow. Your world is your own and whatever your imagination can come up with. It's okay to break the rules!
• Use your imagination!
• Know your geography... I HATED that subject at school... I never knew how much I would need it for writing stories...

My first world on World Anvil I still am tending to and nurturing. I will not be concentrating on this during Summer camp but it does not mean it less loved! I'm actually really proud of my first world and how far it has come and I'm always building it, (it's private so you can't see it!).

There is great change on the horizon for C'Naelia. In a predominately male dominated world Myri, the Goddess of Magic, has given those identifying as female additional power to counter the balance of power within the world. Usually manifesting into their magic later in life, the women, beleiving their lives to be one of servitude have been given the gift of freedom from one aspect of their life, to duty in another. Oooh, until I wrote that out I have not thought of this before! Yes, their will be change. They will not have to bound themselves in marriage....but! Does the Godess Myri expect much from them now she has given them this power? That might be some interesting to consider?

What do those who wish to conserve the status quo feel about these changes? Some Kingdoms may be more accepting than others.

I usually steer toward fantasy genres when reading. It is what I usually am interested in. I've tried other genres but never really got into them so this assignment I felt would be a bit difficult. I have, however, watch movies that aren't my usual genre - again usually sticking fantasy and rom-coms because that's my jam. I watched some thrilers, mysteries, ooh, and some gothic fantasies. You know what, I'm inspired to write a novel that reflects the whole 80s gothic fantasy vibe, but! That will be for another time. In relation to my world, I might add some mystery elements and maybe some scary scene. Speaking of scary, one place that I found some inspiration that I think is quite out of the box was a Youtube makeup video. A lady was doing a halloween series of makeup and inspired me to create a creature that is the stuff from nightmares!

Hmm...thinking about things to come for my world....some terrific shit is going to go down! (rubs hand maniacally like the crazy writer I am). Thinking about it, it will be related deeply with what I have thought about in the 'roots' theme which will create a lovely little circle. I shall not go into to great a detail as that would be spoiling it!

Yes, yes....I have a busy life....(cries in nurse) . I will really need to organise myself to achieve my goals! I have mostly night shifts in July so it is doable, I also have the last week of July off so if I struggle during the month I can...binge write at the end....? Bad idea?

I have my writing space but I need to make sure I don't get distracted but the other shiny things I have in my craft/writing room! Holy shit, I have too many hobbies.

At the minute I have only my willpower helping me through my goal. Sadly, I have yet to be social with the lovely WA community, (I am usually a lurker in the shadows kind of person), but I hope to make more of a effort and take part. I have joined the discord server but again, chronic and socially inept lurker... I hope to take part in Twitch streams when I can, (again, cries in nurse).
