Aetherglass Gate
The Aetherglass Gate is a groundbreaking marvel of magical transport, rumoured to be the finest convergence of Aetheri ingenuity and arcane artistry in the modern age.
At first glance, it resembles a grand standing mirror - oval or rectangular - crafted from silvery-gold alloy with an impossibly smooth, ripple-less surface. Yet it holds no true reflection. Instead, when activated, the glass shimmers like moonlit water and reveals a portal to another, predetermined Aetherglass Gate elsewhere in the world.
These mirrors are not only enchanted, but attuned - each Gate must be ritually bound to its owner’s Aetheric signature and to its designated destinations.
Most Aetherglass Gates are only linked to one or two other mirrors, making their reach exclusive and deliberate. Transport is near-instantaneous, though not without a moment of brief disorientation - a sensation often described as being gently "unzipped" from reality and then stitched into another.
Creation and Control
Forged within the secret chambers of the Aetheri Citadel, only the High Aetheri have the skill and authority to create an Aetherglass Gate.
The crafting requires rare materials:
- Silvergaze Quartz, mined deep beneath the Aesherellian caverns
- Liquid Aether, harvested from storm-distilled aetherlight in Eliond.
- A strand of hair or drop of blood from the intended owner, to bind it irrevocably.
Each Gate is immensely expensive, and only created at the discretion of the Aetheri Council. Mere gold cannot buy one — but loyalty, investment, and political alignment might.
Exclusivity & Access
Only thirteen sets of Aetherglass gates exist. All are heavily guarded and uniquely keyed to their user - usable only by the Aetheri to whom they are attuned, or by their bonded kin or sanctioned royal proxy.
They are primarily gifted to:
- High Aetheri
- Powerful Aetheri married into royal or noble families, for both prestige and strategic mobility.
- Noble-born Aetheri, especially those who serve as magical envoys, court mages, or emissaries.
- Patrons of the Aetheri Citadel, such as the King of Seyalind , a young and forward-thinking monarch who has poured funds and resources into magical innovation.
Cultural Impact
The Aetherglass Gates have become a symbol of status, progress, and whispered envy. To possess one is to command not only wealth and favour but also the luxury of freedom - freedom from the limits of roads, seas, or kingdoms.
Their presence is changing the dynamics of diplomacy, warfare, and trade. Rumours suggest that in the coming decades, the Aetheri may offer public Aetherglass Halls, but only once stability, control, and trust can be guaranteed.
