The Gas Ring
Originally subject to the inner planets (the ring itself was part of a large array of colonies) as a major industry outpost
the ring eventually rebelled, taking with it, three small asteroids, two of them part of the rocky constellation. Starved for more industrial materials (mainly metals) the ring went on to conquer the rest of the rocky constellation and now hails as a massive industrious power.
Imports from the asteroids mainly consist of metals, there are occasional imports of "asteroid coral" (plant like creature which uses it's roots to burrow through ice and rock for nutrients, and grows a thick outer shell for sunlight absorption, circulatory systems use heat from the sun) and small crab like animals which eat the roots of the coral.
The gas ring, unlike the planets sees itself as a space power. This is a key ideal which has manifested in medusa craft public
transportation to and from the the Rocky Constellation.
The gas torus houses a navy boasting at least one capital ship per asteroid and five just outside the ring. Inside the torus is a navy with ports at each Lagrange point of the four main moons.
Military doctrine mainly consists of using numbers to their advantage than quality of ships.
Geography
Most of the gas torus is empty air. Notable exceptions are at the Lagrange points of the moons orbiting the Brown Dwarf which the torus surrounds. These locations are usually packed with small asteroids which have become overgrown on all sides with plant life.
Fauna & Flora
All life here has evolved in this zero gravity environment. Most are bird or fish-like in nature with a trilateral symmetry.
Natural Resources
The torus is the largest volume of breathable air in the solar system. On top of that it is the main provider of food, wood, water to the asteroid belt (most notably the colonies on all asteroids in the Rocky Constellation family).
