Asteroid Coral

Not an animal by any means, it is however what this organism most resembles. It's exterior is covered in a very thick calcite shell which attenuates at least some of the radiation present in space. The shell also serves to deliver heat from the sun to the liquid that is pumped to the roots of the "coral". Along with keeping the thing warm enough to stay alive, this heat is used for the roots to burrow through ice in the asteroid for water and volatiles.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Very thick shell on the outside. Underneath asteroid dirt the roots are of a leathery texture. They seem to be composed of a very tough flesh.

Ecology and Habitats

Found only on C-type asteroids

Dietary Needs and Habits

Needs are very similar to plants with the addition of a need for heat.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Roots seem to be able to "feel" around for ices. They avoid burrowing into rock.
