In response to Port Kolin's growing economic dominance and Lord Krondar's administrative assertiveness, Port Argen, Colrak, The Delvings, Stromvar, and Toregard formalise a mutual defence and trade pact, calling themselves the "Northern Alliance" or "Traditional Alliance." They emphasize their loyalty to the High Thane (despite his disengagement) and commitment to Bretawaldian heritage. Port Kolin condemns this as divisive factionalism. Neutral settlements (Suttgard, Lakeshore, Stonehaven) desperately try to maintain neutrality. The cold civil war becomes undeniable.
