Scolemi

The Scolemi are the highest-ranked scholars in Athantia; those who reach these heights of knowledge and political power sit on the secretive council crafting and amending the laws of this nation.
It is a much sought-after position requiring not only sponsorship from existing members of the council but also a demonstration of peerless knowledge, a track record of putting the welfare of Athantia first, and a lifelong dedication to using your knowledge and skill for the betterment of the nation.
Upon joining the Scolemi you cut your ties with your life before, doning the elaborate and heavily embroidered hooded robes of the position, as well as having a mask crafted, this mask represents who you are on the council, and it becomes your name. It is rumored that once a mask is donned, it can never be removed.
A member of the Scolemi can command any member of the lesser nobility or military personnel without recourse to explain why, and with justification to the Emperor can command any member of the greater noble houses.

Duties

The Scolemi are charged with returning Athantia to the might of the ancient empire of Leverexokarthil to ensure the nation's laws and policies support this aim.

Responsibilities

To research into how Leverexokarthil became so powerful and to craft laws and policies that will emulate this rise to power without taking Athantia down the same route that caused the fall of this powerful ancient empire.
To sit in judgment on all grand crimes, those that could impact Athantia, and pass sentencing on them.

Benefits

Because of the great responsibility the Scolemi bear, their actions can only be judged by a council of their peers other than the emperor, and no one can question the actions of members of this council.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

If a member of the Scolemi is found to have acted in a way that is detrimental to Athantia, a council made up of their peers will pass judgment. The only punishment for such actions is death.
Beyond this disgrace, the position is held for life
