First Summer Camp
Week One
It's my first time taking par in the summer camp challange, i've watched it a few times, but never joined in. well this year i'm gonna take the oppotunity to see what fun comes out of prompts from other people, its already helpf highlight stuff i really should have written stuff about already, I'm looking at you farming!
Farming in Bretawald
Farming in the Maelstrom Nations poses a particular challenge, with the risen dead phenomenon, there needs to be mechanisms to ensure that these widely distributed and isolated communities aren't wiped out by the roaming undead, or more recently, the emergent threat of sylthernak I figure I can hit silver without killing myself, but I'd like to get more done, though I know my spare time doesn't line up with that, so i've gone for doable, not stressful, if I get more, I'll be happy.
Thankfully, my meta is still good, reviewed on a periodic basis, old articles, plenty of those :D but as a TTRPG world i'm less worried about that, they get revistied as and when the group interact with that element again, as you never really know when that will be, attempting to keep everything upto date and changed according to whats been happening would be beyond madness, I'd rather be sysiphus.
Week Two
Roots, well that's not going to be a problem, my world is hinged on the vast expanse of time. I might look at fleshing out the period of history that covers the splitting of nations from Bretawald. The dates of each country are in the timeline, but I haven't put a great deal of detail about the reasons behind the various new nations' split from Bretawald. My home page certainly needs some love; it doesn't look like it has been touched since I wrote it when I first joined WA!
Well, I've gone and tweaked the homepage a bit, tried introducing the nations in a single-ish sentence, informative, I really need to get on with fleshing out those nations more. Thanks SC I've more homework to do now :D
Oddly my worldest worldbuilding is this world, I've been using this setting for the 30 odd years i've been GMing, but over the passage of time I've lost hand drawn maps and notes, archleaver files of details, when I found WA I was delighted I'd found somewhere that I was might less likely to loose all the work i've put into it. These days, it's recalling what I've misplaced, and adding in more details to give depth and life to the setting.
Over the years, I've learnt a great deal more about how to create a world that feels more alive, less reliant on the specifics of a given campaign, so it's less of a strange patchwork quilt made of things that don't mesh.
Week Three
its an odd one for me, the vast majority of major changes within my setting are a result of one of two things, either campaigns I've run or major rules shifts from moving to different editions or rules systems. At the moment, I'm weaving into the current campaign the seeds of introducing mythic rules for Pathfinder 2e. Feels a bit of a cheat topic for me :D.Well currently, the forces of the Onyx Queen are looking for the lost tower of Leverexokathril, as unlocking this will free up the root for mortals to reach divinity. Oddly enough bvack in the early days of this setting I ran a varient of the Immortals (I think that was its name) DND box set, basically players are nacent gods, the tower was the root to immortality back then, and post that campaign I had to "lock it away" so it wasn't something players went after, odd how cyclic stuff can be. Other than that, it's a grim dark world; there's always some changes going on, usually for the worse. We have an invasion by the slythernak bubbling up, a global issue, there's a daemon invasion overdue, well, that's how it seems to the world, no spoilers here.
Week Four
Tomorrow, it feels like a similar place to week three for me. It's an RPG world, so I prep for some futures, but the actions of the group play heavily into what comes of this. I have a few medium-term plots on the go. I could do with spending some time thinking about where the various nations think they are going, they split from a larger entity for a collection of reasons, they need to be brought into the present and planned into where they are pushing themselves to. I can envision some additions to the major articles for each nation emerging from this line of thinking at some point.I suspect this is going to really depend on the specifics of the prompts that come out, but I don't currently think its going to be the easiest of the themes for my world. Time will tell. Everything is always ready, my writing space is my work desk :D
I guess the fact I've not been writing articles for my world, waiting on the prep month to finish, boy, who knew I don't like waiting :D
Hey, it's my first Summer Camp as well! Let's have some fun with it. Best of luck with your pledge :)
thank you so much, i'll wander over and have a gander, though I suspect Crux Umbra's where I'll stay. Love the world name by the way :D
