Mandraga Wood

Mandraga wood is a dense, heavy wood with a pentnant for amplifying magic

Any wooden or mostly wooden item (such as a bow or spear) made from mandraga wood is considered a masterwork item. Items not normally made of wood or only partially of wood (such as a battleaxe or a mace) either cannot be made from Mandraga wood or do not gain any special benefit from being made of mandraga wood. All magic items made at least mostly from madraga wood are treated as though they had a caster level of 2 higher after creation in addition to the following effects based on type of item. Weapons or shields made from mandraga wood double the duration of all magical effects cast on them and such effects always run their course unless forcibly dispelled. Wands and staves and other similarly limited charged items made from mandraga wood regain one charge per day so long as one charge remains in the magic item.

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

Mandraga wood is a dense, heavy wood which has the unique property of amplifying magic. Any magical spells cast on an item made of mandrag wood last longer and are harder to dispel. Foci made of mandraga wood are particularly powerful and magical weapons made of the material are even more deadly.

Geology & Geography

Mandraga wood was incredibly rare, growing often in well shaded valleys in temperate climates. However, in modern times, after the events that brought about the The Dubear Forest in the The Grasslands the trees can now be found growing among the other lush foilage there.

Origin & Source

Madraga wood is harvested from the Mandraga tree in a painstaking process. The toughness of the wood makes it difficult to cut, requiring powerful tools often made from adamantine or enchanted steel. Rendering a single tree into usable planks and other raw materials for crafters takes weeks with a dedicated crew of skilled laborers.

History & Usage

History

Legends say that as soon as the early races of The Material Plane discovered magic, they utilized the mandraga trees to amplify their power. All of the great wielders of magic from legends possessed staves made from shaped mandraga wood with a mandraga seed set in the top. Wands made from the wood, seem to never expire and staves made with the rare material have a way of regaining energy as though the wood still lived. The seeds are incredibly potent at amplifying magic and are highly prized throughout Breon.
