The Compass Tower

The Compass Tower is a massive precursor structure, at its center is a compressed super giant star. It forms warp tunnels to all of the other warp gates around the galaxy. It forms tunnels through space and in a matter of hours you are at the targeted exit gate.
It is used by travelers to access any of the other warp gates in the galaxy, from thos gates you have the option to warp one to the left or right in the ring of gates, you may also move back to the center.

The Compass Tower has metallic hydrogen running through pipes in all of its main support beams, and also in the counter rotating support ring, this helps generate the magnetic field integral to its function.

When the Compass Tower was first discovered by an Alvarian exploration vessel five hundred years ago, it was completely deactivated and partially destroyed.
After twenty years of research it was deemed repairable and restoration began. A fleet of construction ships was assembled and the main rib of the cage that was missing was put back in place and the rest of the missing pieces were gathered from the ring of scrap around it. The peices that could not be recovered were to the best ability of the Alvarians fabricated and reinforced to get close enough to matching the better pieces of the original.
  It now was all put together and assembled with external scaffolding. Power was restored through massive super capacitors, and once it had power it fused all of the pieces and began operating again. The star at its center collapsed down to a tenth of it's original size and got ten times hotter and brighter. It was then interfaced with from the station built around it, and was over five years fully interfaced and controllable from the station. Finally after forty years it was usable.

The Compass Tower is a large cage of unknown meta material surrounding a compressed blue supergiant star. The shape of the cage is a sphere surrounding the top with a smooth curve into an almost spike at both north and south polls. Every rib of the cage is adorned with forests of cooling and communication's antenna. The center of the cage has a massive counter rotating support ring that pushes inward to hold support the main structure. The whole thing is a greenish gunmetal color.
