Council of the Exalted

In the world of Breach, the relationship between the mortal races and their gods are complex and mysterious. Each race has one or more unique deities that they worship, and each god may have several names, titles, and unique rites and rituals of worship depending on where in the world their followers reside. Across the pantheons, many gods share overlapping domains, roles, and spheres of influence, making the study of divinity and religion as a whole difficult at best.   This diversity has given rise to a radical theory: that godly beings are created by the mortals that honor them, and exist as a kind of communal repository for the faith of a people. For some cultures, this manifests as an energy source that can be called upon by some to cast spells and work magic. The arcane and scientific communities of Breach see this theory as fact, while most religious institutions understandably declare the idea to be heretical.   This belief is not entirely without merit, but it is not completely true either. Indeed, a large enough group of people with a unifying belief can manifest a god, or at least trancend a mortal to a godlike figure in the minds and hearts of their people. Such beings wax and wane in their power and influence based on the number of worshippers they have to their name. If a god of this nature loses enough followers, they may be forgotten, lost to the shifting sands of time.   But there is another type of deity, one that has existed since the formation of the world; these divinities are truly eternal - immortal - and they do not need the worship of mortals to endure. Some of them are worshipped by mortals throughout the world to this day, while others may have been banished or sealed away, while while still others have been completely forgotten.   There are 12 of these true gods, a family unit known collectivelly as the Council of the Exalted.
