Ukata

An island that is shrouded in illusion magic powered by a mighty piece of forgotten age tech. It is home to the NWTC's former head scientist who has vanished and regrets helping them. It's pretty much the island from spy kids 2. No one could possibly notice.   Some years ago, the great Theodorax, the eccentric yet brilliant Head Archmage of Tharslemoor University, vanished from his post. Some say he was assassinated, others say he was imprisoned due to him leaking information (unknowingly touching on the truth that he was indeed leaking information to The Thunderclap Monastery. Others still say he deserted, or that he is working on an unknown Company Project. The truth of the matter is that he feared his treachery being discovered, and so fled to a remote uninhabited island to plot a way to overthrow his old masters.

Geography

Ukata is a small volcanic island formed from the eruptions of two volcanoes. The larger of the two dominates the north half of the island and is still active to this day, whilst the smaller one lays dormant, now merely a large stalagmite of volcanic rock.   The terrain is mostly dominated by a hot, dry plain of dark sand that becomes more mountainous the closer to the two volcanoes, like a prairie or savannah. Plenty of hills and valleys dot the landscape, but the arid temperatures and small amount of rainfall mean that the island isn't home to large flora like forests or jungles, and is mostly dotted with small shrubs here and there.   The most remarkable feature about the island is the fact that it moves. Though not perceptible at the scale of the island, those who have seen the island and attempt to journey back to it find it totally gone the next day.

History

Once Theodorax realised that his overseers were beginning to suspect him of leaking information to his confidantes at the Thunderclap Monastery, he realised quite quickly that his life would be in danger. Thinking quickly, he fled to Ukata, an island in the New World that had yet to have been discovered by the Company.   There was a reason he chose this island in particular. Its tendency to vanish overnight made finding him difficult, but it was what was on the island that interested him. In the ground beneath the volcanoes, there exists an entire city from the Forgotten Age nearly untouched by time. Theodorax planned to study these ruins whilst in exile, and pass it along to his monastery colleagues.   One night whilst digging through the ruins, Theodorax came across an intact room that seemed to be some sort of laboratory. Contained within were what seemed to be instructions on altering existing animals to create chimaeras that specialise in countering magic in all its forms. Excited to finally have a means with which to strike back at the tyrannical Company, Theodorax eagerly set about how to recreate this process.   After many failed attempts, the mage was able to reactivate the devices necessary and set about creating small, weak, and easily controllable chimaeras with which to perform a few tests before moving on. In his eagerness, he missed some crucial details, and not being able to speak the Ancient Language, also missed a dire warning left in the instructions by the lab's previous owner. As the chimaeras fed, their power and strength grew explosively, and their temperaments became volatile and unpredictable, before bursting out of containment and almost killing Theodorax.   Theodorax realised that he'd been a fool to tamper with the creation of life, and with his last hope of striking back at the Company dashed, and surrounded on all sides by deadly magic-devouring monsters, he gave up hope of returning to the larger world with the means to destroy the Company and instead sealed himself away deep within the island, taking steps to ensure that the monsters of his creation would never be discovered by the world at large.   The NWTC meanwhile, hunts for Ukata for their own reasons, entirely unaware that it is their former greatest inventors' hideaway. Hidden somewhere on the island is an artefact that was once thought to have been lost during the Forgotten Age, an artefact that if it fell into the wrong hands, would spell the end for piracy everywhere. (Possibly a mighty servant of leuk-o? Triple damage to objects means it sinks ships super easily, and with 30 strength it can just pluck them out of the water, maybe some sort of mass geas or domination ability that would physically overwhelm a creature's freedom)(if it is a mighty servant, the self destruct code could be found on Palanquin).
