New World Key

All sorts of artefacts from across the New World find themselves brought back to the Old World by merchants, pirates and NWTC personnel to sell to make a quick buck. One such item that is relatively common is a New World Key, a mysterious silver sphere covered in strange marks that emits an aura of illusion and divination magic when inspected with an identify spell. The sphere is divided up into segments that can twist, pull, turn and connect in different directions. During the Forgotten Age, the eladrin had these made as a means to navigate the New World as well as to return to their old home on the moon.   Performing the correct sequence of inputs requires a DC 16 intelligence(arcana) check. Doing so has the New World key project a series of green glowing lines and symbols onto the floor and walls of the surrounding area. To most modern eyes, the lines and symbols mean nothing, but someone trained in navigator's tools will be able to notice that they are looking at charts of some kind.   Back during the Forgotten Age, these Keys would by default guide their owner to 'home', i.e the moon, but could be programmed to take their owners to other places. In the current age, the vast majority of these Keys are missing components that hold vital data in order to point towards the moon. As a failsafe, when an incomplete Key activates it instead guides its user to the nearest landmass that contains a missing piece.   When 4 complete keys are brought together, they gain the ability to negate the unusual properties of the Glass Sea, allowing a vessel to sail across it without issue.   Many of the most successful pirates of the New World have a New World Key, and each Pirate Lord has one complete Key in their possession.
