Hydroponic Environment Suits
A recent invention traded to the Empire of the sun, these suits are made to allow plants to move and work farther from their water sources. Adoption of these suits allows the plant people to work in environments they could never last in before. With this technology, jobs in harsh conditions like mines and forges became viable for citizens of the Empire. It did not take long for the barons of industry to realize how many costs could be cut by supplying their workers with suits. Investing in purpose-built environment suits allowed them to pass dangerous jobs onto cheap labor rather than spending on chimaeras, and many suit designs could keep the workers moving even after crippling injuries. The suits also slow the leaching of chemicals into the sensitive roots of the pilots, preventing quick deaths from root shock that would cut into productivity hours.
Power Generation
Most varieties of suit are spring powered, and are manually wound from the inside. Some heavier classes are steam powered, with boilers that share precious water from the drinking reserves.
Propulsion
Hydroponic suits usually use legs or similar appendages to help prevent the catching of roots or leaves on axles. Legs also let the suit go into wildly uneven environments like mines. Legs of the suits are generally animated with spring-assisted manual power.
Armor and defense
Usually, suits are made of copper plating, with additional armor for whatever job the suit is designed to do. Suits in forges and boiler rooms feature ceramic heat shields, while mining suits may utilize layers of filters or even rubber (if the job is particularly valuable and the buyer of the suit is willing to spend a fair bit more).
Sensors
Cameras are fitted to the suits that amplify the vision of their pilots. The enhanced resolution allows them to see and use more delicate technologies and labor alongside human workers.
Additional & auxiliary systems
A series of tanks of distilled water is distributed throughout the suit. All varieties of environment suit contain these reservoirs of water for roots to be dipped in. Usually made of glass, the tanks are the crucial system that lets the pilot survive such harsh environments. Without the water, a pilot can wither away under the stressful conditions, wilted by heat and toxic chemicals.
