Emperor Nethys
Emperor Nethys, The First
The plant empire is ruled by Emperor Nethys, an ancient monarch who has aggressively expanded his domain through conquest and shrewd trade negotiations. He is truly massive, sprawling a dozen meters in all directions. His main body is a royal red pitcher, but he has had many grafts for Drosera leaves to aid his hedonistic lifestyle, and provide natural weapons. Emperor Nethys spends most of his time on his natatorial throne, a staggering collection of stepped bathing basins arranged in something of a loose pyramid. He sits atop the pool, with his span of roots and leaves draping down into the many pools below.
Many of the empire's territories are governed almost directly by him through his controversial method of self-cloning propagation. He also boasts a number of heirs through more accepted methods of sexual reproduction: as the richest plant in the world, he can maintain thousands of flowers indefinitely. His seeded children are given appointments as through traditional methods, but when they fail him, he will often replace them with one of his clonal governors.
Though they have the same basic mind as the emperor, sometimes the clonal governors inherit a dash more of his pride, ambition, or greed and seek to rebel. This has led to several deadly conflicts, where a clonal body will claim that they are the true body of the emperor, and that the remnants are who sit upon the throne.
