Sir Oather Harkin
Sir Oather Harkin
Sir Oather Harkin is a member of the Order of Oris and warden to High Earl Dragnor Garnolt of the Rocklands. He serves under sentinel Sir Malgor Padrow, and is amongst the favourites to succeed the ageing knight. He is the younger brother of Earl Lyndon Harkin of Brithelhead, making him the brother-in-law of Lady Daria Tarnell. He is also the lover of Petra Shameer, a tavern owner living in Shearstone.
Appearance and Character
Oather is a tall man with wide shoulders and a defined jawline. His dark black hair is straight and usually well-kept, his beard short but full and sculpted to a point below his chin. He wears the silver armour of the Order of Oris and carries a tower shield bearing the beige of his order. His weapon of choice is a double-headed battleaxe, with which he is quite proficient. As a member of the Order of Oris, Sir Oather has proven himself to be a capable fighter. He has also sworn the oath of the order to be loyal and true to their earl, the order, and the king. Despite this, he is not as invested in the order as he would like to be and still harbours jealously for his brother, the earl of Brithelhead and the husband of Daria Tarnell.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Oather was born in 961 to Earl Terran Harkin of Brithelhead, an earldom in Thendanor. He was the youngest of two sons, his brother Lyndon being seven years older. While he never harboured ambitions for the earldom promised to his brother, soldiering was his father's idea.
In his early teens Oather squired for Sir Merion Ashford, a warden in the direct service of House Tarnell. During this time, he met and fell in love with Daria Tarnell, daughter of the High Earl of Lylelor. Upon hearing of their closeness, his father Terran used Oather to bring about a betrothal between Daria and Lyndon, with the aim of bringing Tarnell blood, wealth, and power into House Harkin. After hearing this, Oather asked Daria to run away with him. She refused, marrying Lyndon a few years later.
At sixteen, Oather was knighted by Sir Merion and at eighteen was inducted into the Order of Oris as a novice. He later took up a position as a warden within Brithelhead, but left shortly afterwards. He served as a warden in Dregonvell for a short time, before leaving for Darrendown in the Rocklands to serve Earl Agor Karbrin and later, High Earl Dragnor Garnolt directly. He is one of the front runners to replace ageing Sir Malgor Padrow as sentinel upon his death or retirement.
