Black tower

The exact location of the tower was lost after the Blood Moon of the first era. The old legends and tales were telling of tower made of black stone that was created in the ancient times by the gods themselves. All stories described it as a place of great knowledge and power.

Agmul, one of the scholars and explorers, discovered old stone tablets telling a story about the tower during his expedition in Republic of Unimbalor. From that point on, he was obsessed with finding this tower. Upon dedicating his life to the task, he finally found it. It was located in the north mountain of the largest continent of Bleagatara. There was only one path leading from the bottom of the mountain to the plateau on which the tower and its small village stood. The path was completely ruined and at present still is, since Eternal Scriptorium uses the path as a natural defense if someone is ever to find its location.
The village is housing for about five hundred people, composing mostly of guild members and their families. There are two sources of water that are providing all the water necessary for the village and the crops that are produced there.

Purpose / Function

The original purpose of the building became unknown upon Blood Moon's destruction. Eternal Scriptorium was able to conclude, by reading old scriptures, that this tower was part of a network of towers. The locations of other towers remain unknown. To this day, it is all we know about the tower.   At present day, the tower is the headquarter of Eternal Scriptorium. All materials and artifacts discovered on expeditions are gathered here for further analysis by the scribes. Current history of Bleagatara is recorded by the scribes and archived in the vaults of the tower.

Alterations

During the second era, the tower was renovated so it could serve the purpose of Eternal Scriptorium.

In the center of the main hall, a hard iron cage has been placed over a map carved in stone. Only Grand master and selected members of the order are granted keys to enter the cage, since they are the only ones that can descend into the chamber under the map.
Additional changes were done to the plateau itself. All vegetation was removed and replaced by fields and stables so that food could be produced for the population living there.

Defenses

There is a narrow path at the bottom of the mountain, neglected and unkempt, leading to the plateau. With light equipment, it takes about three days to get to the top. Small gates can be seen at several places along the path. Each gate is guarded by a dozen solders. There are mechanisms installed within that can crumble the gate, thus creating a pile of rocks as an obstacle. These gates also serve as resting places for guild members brining artifacts from expeditions.
The entrance to the plateau is guarded by two towers and a gate with massive iron door. It is unknown how much of the force is behind the gate as Eternal Scriptorium does not allow visitors inside the complex.   The rest of the plateau is surrounded by sharp cliffs, making it natural impenetrable defense.

I feel vibes of Vampire Hunter D, where the Count has immortal scribes making illuminated manuscripts to his glory.
