The Moons of Earth

The Earth possesses three moons which have attained many names throughout history, although are truly named by common to be Velas, Ultas, and Pitris. One of these moons, Ultas, has a satellite of its own, sometimes referred to as the Earth's fourth moon, called Eidyl. The moons of Earth didn't always exist however, rather they were placed there by The Grand Illuminous. The three major moons were originally mortals who were missionaries of The Grand Illuminous who created a portal to its plane. However, unlike most who attempt to travel there, they were aware of the risks, and had gauged their eyes out so as not to be blinded by its light, and had [Rezoract the Forever Deep] grant them a powerful protection spell to save them from the intense fires. Upon arriving in The Grand Illuminous as the first mortal beings to survive the journey, they were cursed with becoming demigods. As demigods, their sole desire was to find one another in the great void above Earth, which was deemed suitable compensation since they were blind. Hence, now they wander the sky searching for one another as the moons. Eidyl, the child sister of Ultas happened to be nearby the portal and ran in following her brother. Eidyl was instantly incinerated but the devils took pity on her soul, and further punished Ultas by forcing him to take care of Eidyl for eternity. Notably however, Eidyl never blinded herself, so she helps guide Ultas through the night sky towards his companions.    The Grand Illuminous turned these four mortals into the moons of Earth in the hopes of assisting his projection of energy onto the planet. Whilst they run rampage around the planet searching for each other, they provide a fraction of the light of The Grand Illuminous to the world where it would usually not be seen. This corresponds to the light that they produce at night time, a time which would usually be entirely barren of magic before the moons, often driving many to insanity and depravity. On the rare nights where there is no moon in the sky due to their alignments, sections of the world can descend into absolute chaos that rivals [The Abyss] or [The Shadowfell]  Ultas is the largest of the moons, and is a brilliant white colour representing its barren landscape akin to the moon IRL. It moves slowly around the Earth, spending 85 days making a full rotation, but its effect as a bringer of The Grand Illuminous is the most powerful of all the moons. Ultas was once the son of a noble, but very early on became a disciple, leading to his pure whiteness as a moon. The second largest of the moons is Velas, who is a yellow to green colour due to the intense sulfurs on its surface. Velas was an alchemist by trade in life before becoming a disciple, leading his surface to represent this in its chemical ferocity. He is the furthest out of the moons, but orbits faster than Ultas, completing one revolution every 49 days. The smallest of the major moons is Pitris who was a halfling naturalist in his life, which lead to his moon being a very small dark green body covered in swamps. Pitris is the smallest moon of the three and orbits the closest to Earth with an orbital period of 20 days. Eidyl is a unique moon in that it follows Ultas as he travels around the Earth. She was an innocent child when she became a moon, so she was still to be shaped in her life. Because of this, Eidyl's surface is a scattering of terrains that are touched by magic, including barren crags, magical floating forests, deep swirling seas, and enormous volcanoes, all packed into one body only a tenth the size of Ultas. She orbits her older brother in full every 2 and a half days which is representative of her chaotic youthful energy.   As Demigods, the three major moons were doomed to be eternally searching for each other. When they do find each other as they transit their orbits, intense magical energy washes over the land beneath them. Most often, only two of the moons will transit together at one time, although it is possible for all three to meet together, at which point highly intense magicka washes over the world. Furthermore, the transit of two of the moons causes magic of a certain kind to be projected based on what the demigods were in life. Ultas and Velas align every 116 days (115.694 exactly), at which point they bolster the power of the fight against the undead, weakening them and strengthening the tools of the gods. Ultas and Pitris align every 26 days (26.154 exactly), at which point they enhance the life force of everyone beneath them, granting them vigour and healing the ill. Velas and Pitris align every 34 days (33.793 exactly), at which point acids and poisons are more deadly, diseases more virulent, and reactions more violent. All three major bodies align every 16660 days (45.479 years exactly) at which point magic simply runs stronger through the entire world bathed underneath that alignment. Notably, this alignment occurs over the same position in the world every time, and is located over the ocean in between the continents. This point is called the [Eclipse Point]. Finally, Eidyl also aligns with the alignment of all three bodies every 83300 days (228.219 years exactly), at which point the flow of magic is at its strongest possible over the world.
