The High Infernal Beings
There are 21 major devils which command real power in the realms, of which there are five archdevils and sixteen devils. Notably, there also exists many lesser devils which carry out the work of these twenty one, but they are mostly nameless and insignificant. The five archdevils cover the five aspects of man, good, evil, lawfulness, chaos, and neutrality. The sixteen devils are servants to the archdevils, four for each of them except neutrality. The many devils each command a subset of Hell where they enact punishment on mortal beings who lived lives according to the devil's respective domain. I.e, someone who was extremely individualistic in their life will be punishment by Ribel, the devil of independence. The individual merit of the individual is not taken into account, and all mortals are punished as they threaten the realms of gods. Hence there also exists the devils of good and lawfulness as well. Good and evil are dichotomised depending on the amount of suffering they can cause in the world, and lawfulness and chaos are based upon their ability to readily conform.
Underneath the domain of lawfulness is teamwork, leadership, justice, and honesty. Underneath the domain of goodness is charity, empathy, compassion, and humility. Underneath the domain of evil is ambition, bravery, confidence, and honour. Underneath the domain of chaos is creativity, independance, enthusiasm, and detachment.
The five archdevils
Azilicent, scourge of lawfulness
Azilicent is the archdevil that supervises the lawful dead. He himself is incredibly organized, maintaining strict order over his subservient devils. Because of this, he has earned a despised title amongst his workers, yet his sector of hell is the most efficient at punishment. Meneus enlists Azilicent as the head of judgement process, technically putting his above his fellow archdevils when deciding where to send damned souls. Azilicent appears as a pale blue devil with perfectly straight horns protruding from his forehead. He rarely flies, so his wings are smaller from atrophy yet bear no tatters, and his leathery blue skin is never dirty. He bears little time for mortals, but is extremely subservient and willing to listen to any being above him.Porbonum, scourge of goodness
Porbonum is tasked with punishing those who were good in their life. He is rather slothful, as his subservient devils are quite good at their jobs and there is so few souls sent to him for punishment that he has the easiest job of the archdevils. Hence Porbonum spends much of his time either sleeping, eating broken souls, or wandering the realms. He enjoys watching mortals in their daily lives and sowing the seeds of evil amongst them, but to do this he takes on a lesser form so as to not arouse suspicion, usually manifesting as a charlatan or criminal. Porbonum's fiendish form is a dark purple, bulging figure. One of his horns was famously severed by an elf whomst he fought that was trying to free a soul from hell, so his one remaining horn is scratched and chipped, curling backwards from his face. He bears two sets of wings, the lower ones smaller than the upper, that stretch just beyond his arm span.Melus, scourge of evil
The most feared of the archdevils is Melus the bloodstained. He is responsible for punishing all those who increased suffering throughout their lives, hence his region of hell is colloquially known as 'The Howling Pit' from all the screams of tortured souls. Melus revels in pain, and eagerly accepts damned souls to punish, often seeing to punishment of significant mortals himself. Melus is the traditional view of a devil, red, winged, clawed, and horned, with a serpent tongue and fire in his eyes. Some believe that he was not always like this, turned from witnessing all of the evil that plagues the world and forever corrupted in some insanity. He carries a burning trident with which he spears souls from afar as if hunting game, and his cackles as he does so are said to be so ominous that it breaks the spirits even of lesser devils.Sultem, scourge of chaos
Sultem is fittingly the most wild of the archdevils. Under his domain is all of the non conformists of the mortals, which he punishes in some of the most interesting ways compared to other archdevils. Sultem's subservient devils rarely listen to him, partly because he has little to say to them and partly because whenever he speaks, his ravings are so lunatic that only the gods can understand the ebbs and flows of his mind. Sultem is a faint yellow colour with horns that split and travel in many directions, clearly impractical for hunting anything with. Because of this he carries a flail in one hand and a serrated sword in the other, which often get caught in his wings leaving them tattered and torn. Thus Sultem rarely flies anywhere and can often be seen teleporting or galloping around his section of hell. The other archdevils rarely have much to do with Sultem, and they tend to ignore him when condemning souls to their various domains.Nedias, scourge of neutrality
When the gods created the devils to punish the beings of the lesser realms, they were at a loss with what to do with those who did not fit into any of these categories. So, they created Nedias who would be responsible for dealing with the truly neutral beings of the world. Nedias doesn't command his own domain of Hell, rather he takes all of the neutral souls and ressurrects them as various cursed and lesser creatures of the mortal world. Because such souls are few and far between, he takes little work, instead spending his time masterfully crafting new abominations that he will plant the souls he gets into. Of Nedias' creations include the Kua Toa, a race of sheepish fish people who live deep underground with limited capacity for much themselves. Although Nedias has also created a number of other unique beings such as medusas, doppelgangers, and banshees. Nedias is a pale white with deeply jarring black eyes. His horns curve outward from his face, and his wings are tiny in comparison to other devils. The sixteen devils
Kollebrus, bane of teamwork
Kollebrus is the devil responsible for punishing those who were cooperative in their lives. He does this by giving the damned souls immense tasks with unfathomable consequences and forcing them to do them by themselves, or giving them false teammates who sabotage them. Kollebrus is a punily sized devil, mostly blue in colour with a white belly and short wings.Dusinibrus, bane of leadership
Dusinibrus punishes those who were great leaders in their lives, which he does in a similar manner to Kollebrus, giving them tasks to do as a team, but with extremely uncooperative members. Sometimes Dusinibrus, Ribel and Kollebrus will work together to create huge fields of punishment where each soul is given a different task which must be completed or else immense physical punishment, but is at the disadvantage of all the other souls. This kafkaesque experience is designed to drive the souls to insanity, and is greatly efficient at torturing large batches of damned souls. Dusinibrus is a commanding figure with red on orange stripes and grand wings.Lustirus, bane of justice
Lustirus brings condemned souls with him to the sorting table where newly dead souls are put into their various hells. She is the only devil who sits on the council with the archdevils, but has no input herself, rather taking large batches of souls and forcing them to vote on how best to punish souls which would seem innocent by mortal standards. Lusitrus mainly has to punish people like lawyers and judges, so even those souls in reserve are punishing themselves with the discourse of conflicting moral, ethical, and philosophical standpoints. Lustirus is a dark grey devil with a stocky build and thick wings that are closer to bludgeoning devices than flying ones.Borboritrus, bane of honesty
Borboritrus is in charge of punishing the painfully honest people in life. He establishes an eternity of scenarios in which telling the truth leads to great pain and suffering for every party involved, leading the forever honest to either abandon their values or suffer eternal guilt for the cause of suffering. Borboritrus is a very tall devil with pale white leathery skin and yellow stripes down him like a tiger's, and his wings are broad but narrow.Praecipia, bane of charity
