Gernan the Beastmaster

Gernan is one of the worshipped deities, and was birthed from the initial chaos at the creation of the universe. He represents the dominion over the wild, which has been viewed by mortal sentients as dominion over nature. Despite this view, Gernan's home plane is The Abyss, where his job is to keep in check the various demons that gain immense power there and rival the gods. However as the mortal sentients began gaining power on Earth and in the Feywild, he was tasked with controlling those beings as well, and thus extends his influence over these planes as well. Gernan supposedly proposed the creation of Dragis the Dragon God to help him survey each of the realms he was supposed to manage, but as legend goes, the dragons grew complacent and lazy in their roles. It is believed that he uses wildlife creatures to keep tabs on the Earth, ignores the Feywild, and maintains himself in The Abyss where he needs to most exert his power. Gernan embodies in the material realms as a hulking muscled man bearing his signature axe which uses to slay demons in the Abyss where he spends most of his time.    The purpose that Gernan holds is to prevent lesser beings from achieving god-like powers. Hence, disciples of Gernan tend to restrain their power and try to stop others from gaining too much power. This manifests itself mostly as Robin Hood -esque characters who try to bring balance to the power by "stealing from the rich to give to the poor". Churches of Gernan follow entirely alternate tenets, rather focusing on the bestial nature of his personality. Such institutions may appear to outsiders as nature focused, tree-hugging, animal loving cults, but from the inside they are bastions of the natural world where the wilderness is allowed to maintain its natural state and combat the urban sprawl. Priests of these churches often maintain enormous gardens where flora and fauna alike form intricate ecosystems of size proportional to the churches power. Missions of Gernan are few, and manifest as underground mercenary groups who plot hits against beings of extreme power. These missions often attract hopeful adventurers who want to make their impact on the world in a big way, or sinners who want repentance from the gods.
